Well, a friend of mine had the motor go on his Nytro. More operator error than anything as the oil filter leaked and took out the connecting rod journal bearings. He has recently purchased another motor but is worried that there could be issues with that crank as well. We are thinking of replacing the connecting rod bearings while the motor is out. Anyone have any insight on this. I have experince with other motors but not the Nytro. After looking at his old motor it appears that the magneto needs to come off. Is this pressed on? Also, any advice on keeping timing. Does this motor have timing marks and during reassembly should it be TDC on number one cylinder? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would personally send the motor off to Dave Marshall at Hurricane Performance. He knows these motors like the back of his hand and will do a great job. I had my motor rebuilt to stock specs by him in the fall and he did what needed to be done quick and at a great price. I would stringly recomend sending your motor to him

Ask your buddy if he wants to sell the sled without the motor? If he does PM me and we can talk price.

Thanks

I've done two sleds with dave, and wanting to do a nypex this summer. He is top of the line and prices are very good. Thats why I'm looking for a nytro chassis, I already have an apex motor on its way to him for a big bore, heads it should be around 185hp

Jay, there are marks on the timing gears and TDC is on cylinder #3 if im not mistaken.
Also there is a mark on the magneto that can be seen through the smaller hole on the mag cover to ensure that you are on TDC on the compression stroke of cyl #3. but if have the cam cover off you can see the lobes on the cams. they need to be away from each other. The marks on the gears are very easy to see. they need to be together. There are also two dots on the gears that need to be facing straight up

Thanks for the tip. I have the manual from this site so that should help.
