I think almost everyone has this issue.
Unless you've gone with a early engage clutch kit from day one.
In stock form the primary spins too much before grabbing the belt.

This has happened on Yamaha since the early 90's.If you ride at a constant speed or always flooring the gas with the factory clutching.

The Yamaha stock belt is very hard.
Once the grooves are in the primary, they are there.
I've talked with different people over the years.
One of my favorite's was with the owner of Thunder Products (heavy hitters).
The topic came up about Yamaha primary's and race sleds.
He's seen grooving so bad from bad set-ups that the belts have near cut right through the sheaves down low in the pocket.
Ah, but in the performance race game, clutch parts are tossed quickly.
There are so many clutch kits out there.
Some designed to clear up the lurch (hard engage).
I think the guys a Schmidt Bros Motorsports have addressed that.
I've got a D&F set up, it squeezes the belt much harder right away. I tried an Ultimax belt myself last year. But with the clutch kit it didn't last long and failed prematurely. I now stick with the harder Yamaha belt.
Cheers
