Off to Maine for season

OSP mount? Wow, can't believe you actually got a hold of them... Gone right down the sh**Ter since big Jim passed :-(

Head north! Millinocket to matagammon, portage, presque isle and fort Kent. Great riding. Back pack it and you will love it

After New Years, that's the plan, but those trails won't be open until then.
The County is open NOW!
Which is where i'll be from Xmas to New Years

This year, the free weekend in New Brunswick is on the last weekend of school vacation. We're going to brave the traffic and hope the trails in NB are much better this year.

Even with school vacation, we're able to put on 300+ miles in a day easily. I highly recommend getting up to The County and trying out the trails if you're in the area.

You live 2 streets away from me & we still only see each other 400 miles from home.
Funny how things work

From my door..it’s about 545-550 miles door to door to St. Agatha. I guess if you’re talking Millinocket ya 400 or so.

I've been deer hunting the Forks area the past 4 years. I love that area.

Berry’s store posted pics of many happy hunters with their Big Bucks on Facebook this season. Lot’s of good sized bucks this season. Were you one of those?

Heres a question for the experienced Maine riders. We have been backpack riding Quebec for many years would like to find some places like 100 Lacs or other outfitters that offer similar meal and lodging experiences.

The only overnight trip we did last year was 1 night at the Rangely Inn.

Theres the Caribou inn and Convention center that has A very nice/fine restaurant in the place. It’s on the high class end of things for northern Maine..indoor swimming pool etc etc...$$. Obviously call ahead and see what the accommodations are, as the place fills up fast.

Presque isle also has a big place on the right hand side as you’re traveling north on Rt1. It changed its name a few years back, so not real sure on its current name? It too is a big place and has restaurant in the building. Both these places the trail comes right to the door.

And Presque isle also just put up a few years ago, a bigger hotel(A Hampton inn maybe?) 4-5 floors right in the center of town. So there’s some choices for you.

It's 506 miles from our door to our main(e) base at the Bunker Inn in Limestone (multiple puns intended). Hopefully the original trial to Libby's is open this year - it's a pain to ride almost all the way down to Shin Pond and make the turn. Plus, I really enjoyed the old Libby Pinnacle Trail.

We used to "saddlebag" Quebec all the time, but we built a camp in Jackman, and there is so much great riding, all within a day's ride of camp, that we rarely cross the border anymore. Still, Montmagny QC is an easy overnight from Jackman, and Hotel l'Oiselière is a great place to stay and eat; it would be a couple of hours longer from Greenville, but a great ride. If you didn't want to go that far, there is a large new hotel in Beauceville (right on the trail) that caters to sledders. I haven't done the Greenville to Millinocket run in a few years, but that was always a great ride, and there were some good places to stay in Millinocket.

Way too many to mention all but here are a few. Some of the snowmobile maps are really great for this whereas they list many hot spots on them.

Millinocket has many in town, but this one is not in town, and is known for their cuisine. (5 Lakes Lodge). Fuel?

Shin Pond village/ lodging, fuel and country store style eatery. or Mt Chase Lodge located near ShinPond, they offer meal plans except for Mon Tues I think.

Bowlin Camps, rustic accommodation and fuel? Food yes but do not expect anything great in this remote spot with restaurant. Hunting cabins at best.

Deans Restaurant and lodging in Portage. 2 story older type hotel with nice restaurant and a country store just across the road with fuel and country store food and goodies.

Presque Isle has many but only one with restaurant within. That would be Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center. Just across the road is the Sure Stay which use to be the Budget Inn. They were always priced cheap but since the buy out there prices have gone up.
In town is the Hampton Inn but one would have to drive or sled to find dining like a Bonanza restaurant or The Lodge or Governors etc. They are assessable by sled but who wants that after a long day on the trails or rr beds.

Caribou Inn & Convention Center as mentioned by other. Or the Crown Park hotel is near by but without a restaurant.

Madawaska also has a few, The Inn At Acadia has really good restaurant for dinner and for what they call a continental breakfast which offers freshly cooked crepes while you watch. Kind of funky location whereas we park off street, on the School front lawn area, which is the local snowmobile trail that leads to fuel downtown. But cross the school road and there is the groomed trail!!!

I am leaving many off this list like Fort Kent, St Agatha, and many more but this should give you something to think or dream about.

Happy Trails!!

Given the fact that there seem to be a lot of us on here that are either living or riding in Maine, shouldn't we give serious thought to a Totally Yamaha ride, whether formal or informal? Maybe a trip to "The County;" it's a long haul but the snow is dependable and the riding is awesome. Riding for a day or a weekend with a bunch of TY guys might be fun!

I’ll be there the day after Xmas(the 26th) if they have riding/snow? I know they’ve already groomed and rolled the trails, but some rain is on the way tomorrow, and what kind of damage that does? And if they get more snow between now and then-will determine if I go. I’m staying in St. Agatha...at the Long lake Motor Inn; great little lodge it is! Trail comes right to the back door, and you can jump on the lake across the street..awesome location.

I am taking some time the week after Christmas, but we got heavy rain this week that took away all the snow here in central Maine, and it seriously depleted the snow north of us. The Jackman area where I ride is definitely out of the picture until they get more snow, and as you said, we are actually scheduled for more heavy rain tomorrow, so it is only getting worse. I am not sure that the County has enough snow to withstand the rain they are predicting. Keep your fingers crossed for some serious snow!

The County took a savage beating last weekend and they are announcing another 1/2 inch of rain tomorrow. Will see Monday what's left.
