I'm alright with working on my sled, but for the life of me I can get the damn filter off. I tried my filter wrenches, all that did was crush filter, so I used the awful screwdriver trick and ripped most the filter housing off. Now what? Remove the front end?

Maybe try tightening a little first to break it loose. Is there enough left to put a hose clamp on to knock it loose with a hammer and punch? Else, you're going to need more room to work...sledneckwannab said:I'm alright with working on my sled, but for the life of me I can get the damn filter off. Getting to the oil filter on the Phazer is a pain in the azz. I find it is best to stick a good size phillips screw driver through the filter and use that to break it loose. G.B.

He has ripped most of the filter off already trying that. I would try a small pipe wrench if possible if not then a hammer and chisel but make darn sure not to cut through and hit the seal face on your engine.

put a hose clamp around the base as tight as you can get it - use a big screwdriver and then push down on the screwdriver and it should come off
removie as mush as you can so you can work it off... I had a hard time pulling mine (I put on a k&n filter with a lug on so I could be sure I would get it of next time).. I just removed the airbox when I got mine out but it was tight so If the filter is destroyed I'd take the subrframe out just to make sure theres no metal in the plumbing after you do get it out..

I am going to pull front of frame off, then cut it off, just going to pry a side up and snip it off. Joy joy

I would at least try to tap it off with a hammer and chisel if it gets close to going through it will most likely snap apart which should release all tension and it should spin off easily at that point. Do you have a friend who is a mechanic? Remember when the filter is being tightened it is compressing the rubber sealing ring. Now if the housing that holds the rubber sealing ring is cut the tension will be released. Just take your time and look at it often.

What about a big set of channel locks? Had to do that once on a car and it worked.
Lets just say I am not so quick to drive the screw driver throgh the filter anymore.

Was it cross threaded?
I usually need a quarter of a turn with a channel lock then I can turn it by hand.

It was over tightened guaranteed and this is why you do not over torque. Spin on until rubber seals touches and then 1/2 turn more. I admit I go 3/4 turn over rubber seal touching and never have a leak or a problem to take them off.

The phazer is brand new, that's just how tight it was from factory. Glad I finally got er off though.
