Oil separator, major problem!

Same thing happened to me this week .What a mess. Had to tear it apart outside and clean it out. Lots of water in the oil separator. 3 hours cleaning and 6 rolls of paper towel...lol

My '14 Viper made a mess last weekend, up in Munising, MI... twice. Did get really cold at night, so I assume that did it in, despite cleaning actually.

Both of these separators come up when searching across various Viper/Winder models. Wondering if anyone has ordered recently to confirm specific part number? Janne339 picture shows two different separators.

The part numbers I've found so far:
8JP-E1164-01-00
8JP-E1164-00-00

Has anyone ran the updated part number and had any better luck? I’m not sure which year they superseded the old part number but I would imagine the newer vipers have been running the updated separator for a while now. I had a huge mess with mine last winter and lost some faith in the sled because of it. Trying to find ways to make it better this winter if I don’t upgrade sleds. We ride in a lot of cold weather so it’s something that’s in the back of my mind all the time now. I got a 4 stroke so I wouldn’t have to carry extra oil with me. Or at least that was one of the many reasons lol.

What year did they put on the new separators? Or was it just the 2014’s that had the issue?

I went looking through the part numbers and diagrams last night after I posted this and it appears that I’m 2018 they came out with the new part. Every year before that supersedes to the new number. 2018 and on just has the new number listed.

Just reading through this thread again as I do some final prep for the season. Does anyone know if this part number is updated due to a change in the way this oil separator works? Item 35 in the link below shows part number is 8JP-E1164-01-00 which is probably different than what I have in my 2015 RTX SE. (changed from "00" to "01"

Yes separator is different now. Its on more of a angle at bottom in attempt to get the moisture to more readily flow down.

Unfortunaltey I’ve yet to hear from anyone if it actually solved the issue. Hasn’t been a lot of vipers sold the last 2 years around here so there aren’t a lot of experience with the newer set up.

I added a couple of drains to the airbox in case any oil blows in there, kind of like the Apex has IMG_2765.jpg IMG_2766.jpg IMG_0286.jpg

Pulled mine off and washed it in hot soapy water. Nothing disgusting came out of it. It was pretty clean. Dry with some compressed air and reinstalled. Peach of mind on this one I guess ???

Thanks guys for the replies I’m bringing it in tomorrow I just got this sled it’s a 2020 and it only has 27 miles on it. Pretty much bs that a guy pays $15800 and this happens rite away.

Hopefully it is just a matter of it being overfilled or you rolled it on its side.

Yes there was one season where I didnt roll the sled on purpose or accident and I also got nothing out.

Anyone have any experience using the new updates separator from the 2018 and newer viper?
