If canadians buy a sled in the Us (yes i ordered 1 anyways) can we just get a us mail box and register it in the Us, ( yes pay local sales tax but maybe theres a state that has a very low rate) and just bring it across the border. And when and if we sell it do it within the US. Because after this season I doubt that there will be this much of a difference between the 2 countries in price. This would save possible some paper work at border and a much lower tax rate as we would be paying to bring it to Canada 7GST + 8 PST and the 180 fee.
Any thoughs on this? Your feed back & comments would be appreciated. :yam:

New Hampshire has no sales tax.

"Live Free or Die" I think they say.

Probably not a problem buying it.

Not sure how you would make out at the border on your way in to Canada?

Might have a real issue with the Customs guys. :o|

If you ride the Canadian trails and are a Canadian resident you will have to show them your drivers license if stopped and than they will inquire why you are riding a U.S. sled registered to yourself.

Also what are you going to tell customs at the border when you bring it in if you are not declaring it?

The best way to do it is to have an American RESIDENT buy it and sell it to you no warranty problems on used sleds.

I have a good buddy in Buffalo and I am tempted to buy one in the fall and just get it warranty registered in his name and if I have any problems up here, I will just get the work order written up in his name, and in turn, gettting warranty coverage.

Buying in the US

The last time I did the math there was not that big of a difference with the exchange rate being about $1.21. So a $13,000 sled in Canada is $10,743 in the U.S.A. Now if I'm not mistaking you still have to exchange your money and that will cost you also. So maybe someone can explain the advantage to me.

Well here it is then. $14,600CDN * 1.15 Ontario sales tax = 16790CDN. $9821.00US * 1.21 exchange * 1.15 CDN tax = $13735.00CDN. Diff of 16790 - 13735 = $3055.00CDN funds we would be savings. Go figure.

Prices

Yeah you are right! Your prices in Canada do not jive. First of all they need to get the prices adjusted. I wonder how they come up with these prices. Might be worth a call to Yamaha.ca.

Yamaha Canada has ben reading these posts plus they have beev called numerous times over the past month with no action on their part yet.

No, you don't pay the state tax, because the sled is being exported out of the country.

Best prices I got were
12,100 CDN & 14%=13,794 for RTX non rev.
8,800 US=10,671 CDN & $182 fee to transport Canada & 14% tax = $12,352.64 CDN. Diff = allmost $1500 CDN.

Kam, again..welcome to the dark side. Been a long time since the James Bond Rev!!!!
This is the price I got from Brandon Marine for CDN RTX. The US price is easy to get from allmost any dealer. If you travel further I have seen em for $8500.
