One piece aluminum oil tank

They have ran these tanks since 2012 and there are no issues.
Its amazing how many problems the Yamaha clan seems to find while the Cat guys don't seem to have these issues.

The real problem is the vent hose plugging with ice and pressure building.

I have to kindly disagree with this statement.
The AC dealers near me take ALL their tanks off from factory & re-seal them immediately, so the factory installation DOES suck.
Removing the ROV does help, but these are band-aids on what is obviously a crappy design.
There is no logical or engineerical (made up word) reason to NOT have some sort of gasket or even a solid tank.
That said, since my tank was re-sealed & i removed the ROV it has NOT leaked, but this does not diminish my un-trust of this ENGINEERICAL YUCKINESS!

2s is slightly diff but similar.....I think all 4s(cat/yam) are same tank setups....

I had a few back and forths way back when I approached CFM as their tanks for Apex/Nytros are super stout. And they had asked me if I wanted to send mine in for fitting. But then after that I never heard back.

I had impressed upon them how many guys would buy these, since we all end up having seeping tanks....and It sounded like they were on the case, but nothing since mid summer....Everyone should go onto their site, and "contact them" through their email on their site. Maybe that would get a response...lol

I was looking at the nytro tank they have, and I bet that could be made to work even.

I Emailed CFM.
Maybe if enough of us contact them, they'll see the fiduciary benefit & make us a DEPENDABLE (and pretty) oil tank.

You know, if the tank was separate it would help with cooling & also we wouldn't have to change oil to work on chain case.
Not to mention saving the environment from oil leaking all over our beautiful woods.

P.S: Not that leaking oil in the woods is more important than blowing up your chain case & being stranded in the woods, but i'm trying to be Ecologically Sensitive here...

The stock oil tank is designed so the engine will not starve for oil when the skis are pointed at the sky. I would not switch to an aftermarket tank unless it can do this properly.

I think that goes without saying.
I believe CFM makes quality products & does their research. I've seen their Apex & Nytro tanks & they are well built & address the issues they were designed to fix......and they're pretty

I would make sure before taking a chance and ruining my engine!

This i tought about for 2 years ago when i bought the sled. I changed to a Apex oil tank and it works great :) Problem solved ;)

I had upgraded my nytro to one of those tanks and they are very well made. It would easy to modify that tank and just change the mounting brackets to match the bolt pattern from the existing cover. Cant believe someone hasn't done this yet.
MS
That was my thoughts too.....Likely could slap the nytro tank on with a few tweaks....easy. Id love to remove all that stock crap altogether.

I believe rocker Dan had a leaker even after removing the roll over valve. I Could be wrong, maybe he will chime in.
My 2012 CAT leaked just the same as the 18 winder...ridiculous cat has an unchanged design that sucks for so long. Sure the rollover valve delete helps reduce pressure, but most still seem to leak sooner or later.

Dan

Also remember not all have this issue and many think like me. If I dont see a drip on the floor its not a issue. Oil will seep through a microscopic opening or if trapped on outside the seal. Just because its wet looking should not cause anyone to hit the panic button. Before condemning it and having everyone panicking over a little seepage only to maybe make it worse by resealing and possibly stripping the self tapping screws and holes maybe just try cleaning it and if really worried clean it real good and put a couple coats of black spray paint over entire cover. That tank never needs to be removed anyway. Heck you could even caulk the outside of it before painting.

You can convince yourself all you want, but it's an absolute shitty design. Excuse my language, but just because a few don't leak, doesn't mean it's still not a SHITTY design!
Would YOU design this? Cuz if you did, i'd not only lose respect for you as an engineer, but i'd also lose respect for you as a person.
I have yet to meet ONE person that i've shown this to that doesn't think it is THE most asinine design in the world.
My DOO bud laughed & said he would NEVER buy a Cat chassis because of these types of issues.
My Polaris bud, who has a leaky chain case, says at least his is fixable with a new gasket.

PLEASE! PLEASE!
PLEASE do not defend this engineering disaster.

BTW: The Cat dealer down the street has repaired well over 100 leaky cats. He's only been in business for 2 years.

Well I sure hope my 2015 Viper with YES IS COVERED. The sled was dry for two years now has a recurring puddle. Arrrg
Well test of Dealor and YES COMING UP

Waiting on a lift but when it arrives I will start a “ask a turbo cat owner anything” thread and publish any requested photos. I would pay $200 for a tig welded oil tank, I saw what CFM is capable of. Assuming my tank design is the same, I would immediately fire the designer and do my best to prevent them from working again. It’s unconscionable. Let’s make a boat by gluing two half shells to a verticle piece of plywood...

Calm down. All I am saying is this is being overblown and by doing so your going to be having people mess up a tank that might not ever have a REAL leak. Oh and I have 13000 mi on my original tank and original case cover with original thin tabs and original o ring for chaincase. Oil tank has never been removed. Chain case has been opened up at least 10 times. Does it seep. Yes. has for years. Is it a fragile touchy feely design? Yes but it has worked fine for me and many. Cases have always seeped and leaked. No way would I totally redesign entire system for that issue.
