I need some help on looking for what is causing my over rev situation.
I've been running Ulmer's clutch kit for two seasons and it has always run right at 8900 rpms. But for some reason I can now easily bounce off the rev limiter. Since I have changed nothing on the sled I was sure that I had lost some washers in the weights. But after inspection, I found the weights were all fine. But the belt was worn. So I adjusted the height and still had the problem. So went to a new belt and that hasn't fixed it either.
So I'm at a loss of what to check. Everything seems to be just fine. So why was I able to run for two seasons at 8900, and now I can bounce off 9400? Something must have changed, but what?

does it do it all the time? Any chance the belts getting wet and slipping?

Does it all the time. I did think about the springs being sacked out. But haven't changed them out yet.

Sorry - Stripped all the accessories out and sold the sled at end of the season.did you ever figure this out? mine's doing the same thing, although I have drag n flys

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the same problem. Ran the same Ulmer clutch kit since new in 09, stock motor. Now all of a sudden, this season, I'm overrevving? Checked weights, all seem there, cleaned clutches, tried a different belt too! The only i did was I added an excell header because my stock pipes were shot. I wouldn't think that would make that much difference?

check for low spots worn on the arms the weights go in..I was bang'n off the rev limiter last year. 2 of the arms has deep groves worn in from the rollers..they also added a touch more weight..

I know a lot more about clutching now than I did when I had my over-rev issue on my Nytro since I started this thread. One part of me would seem to believe that I was over-revving simply because of the superb conditions I was running in. The sled was clutched perfect for 90% of what I would ride in. But since the conditions were absolutely great, I could get more power down resulting in over-rev. Otherwise, I would attribute it to the springs likely being week. I had roughly 6000 miles on the clutch kit. Everything was fine - weights, rollers, belt, helix - all in good shape, and I wasn't missing any washers in the weights. So it was likely worn out springs.

The supertips weights do wear out fairly quick. I had the same problem, I phone up STM and they said if you run the same speeds alot of time, which trail sleds do, the weights will wear out.
A soft clutch spring will actually bring rpms down as it gets weak.

I'll take a look at the weights and see if I can see any wear. I am a clutching novice for sure, so I may not know exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tips guys
