I plan to try true duals R1 exhaust.The Aaen true duals sounds great but it is just to loud and packing burned out fast.Hope to avoid that and only dyno I need at this point is the clutch.If it pulls more RPM mod is working.Clutch it to take advantage of the rpm.Always.Once big mods begin I dont see how you could do it without dyno,afr and a tuner.

Weight savings aside (there are other area's on the sled that could be put on a diet), in some cases leaving the stock exhaust in place would be a good thing.
To really know if your slip-on muffler works in conjunction with the motor parameters, put your sled on a dyno. Run it and record the power output along with the exhaust temps and the A/F ratio. Remember thought the only two basics adjustments that you can make on this motor is the ignition gbase timing and the fuel pressure (without major modifications).
Don't get me wrong, I endorse your desire for performance
mods to your Phazer. But like most, good performance ain't.
Only cheap performance is------------Cheap. And with some, you can even leave out the word------performance.
I understand where you are coming from but to my knowledge there isn't a dyno anywhere near me. I would be glad to put my seat of the pants against one if someone has the means to do so. I also plan on cutting weight in other areas I plan on keeping and building my phazer up since nothing else out there appeals to me. But as far as the exhaust goes an increase in top end and the noticeable increase in bottom end coupled with the loss of weight equals a no brainer for me performance doesn't always have to cost big bucks. Again this is my opinion on this one exhaust system I make no claims for or against any others.

That is a major part of using your "seat of the pants" and/or watching the tach. The clutch system on a sled squews (did I spell that right?) the entire testing session.
1) Dyno the motor by itself to obtain the power levels at @ given RPM.
2) Tune the motor for your area of running (altitude - temps)
3) Clutch according to the motor performance levels, traction quality, riding style.
4) Test Test and more Test.
I know, it all takes time and money. Bottom line, there is no short cut to the higher levels of performance.
Cannondale, what I would like to see is a 4-stroke professional take on designing a new cam for this motor. You can change fuel pressure, perform changes to the mapping, exhaust mods, but the real gain is in the valve timing.
Be lucky that you are dealing with a snowmobile motor. You haven't seen real costs till you have a performance boat-----with twin motors. Try 4K on an exhaust system, for one motor!!!!!!

Heck I have a ported head just sitting here waiting to go on.Just cant bring myself to tear into a great running motor just yet though.100% agree Rotax power requires either alot of work or alot of time.Heck a new cam.I havent even seen any specs on stock cams.They should be degree'd as a first step before making new ones.I know Yamaha can be Waay off on thier YFZ cams.I bet the cam timing on our Phazers is set toward lowend power.That can easily be changed IF a guy wanted to pull the motor or at least one whole side off.

ok first one to blow there motor does cams. im looking hard at carbon fiber slide rails and better boards for next season. i think dollar for dollar dropping weight is going to show the best results.
You are probably right since 85hp out of a 500cc 4st is pretty impressive BUT the phazer only dynoed about 40-45hp at track so is pretty pathetic there when you consider there is plenty of 500cc singles putting 65hp at wheels on quads and bikes.Not stock of course.Might be bigger gains looking at driveline efficiency but would probably require losing alot of suspension.

Putting the sled on a diet would result in not only speed/braking performance gains, but the handling would increase also. My humble experience with sleds in the area of "diet's" are the fact that 5% loss is easy. Beyond that it gets either real expensive and/or reliability is compromised.
I will save the cam investigation for a new thread.

They are really loud unless you plug them with insert and then lose gains.Cheap though.I paid $15 for a all stainless one.Here it is on a buddies Cannondale that he made a HUGE headpipe for with hardly no bends.Made 3hp but its just a guess whether it was pipe or silencer that got gains since we didnt have time to put original back on with riceburner silencer.

I picked up some team Skidoo titanium torsion springs at Haydays but it will require mods to fit them.Wieght loss would be worth it though for sure.No flowtesting but I trust my porting guy to make power.Matczak Machine in PA has never failed me yet.Nice head!Would like to see your car.Is a whole topic with pics of my head somewhere.I told him I wanted topend power since I feel I can afford to lose some low end and not suffer.
