But they dont reduce the icebuild up and the weight of all this ice inside the tunnel. Read about a guy on this forum that have weight the amount of ice that slipped from the tunnel to 30lbs..

That's not what's at question here. If you reread the initial post, it refers to getting wet from all the snow/water produced from the hole. The panels alleviate that problem. As far as the ice build up on the inside of the tunnel, tapping it off with a mallet after the ride solved it for me. I also had to do it on my Attak, so it seems it's just over emphasized on the Phazer since our attention is drawn to that hole.

I know that. I just added that information thinking it maybe could be useful for anybody who hasn't had the chance to use theyr sled yet in powder and cold weather.

Seems like some of you guys have problems to admit that the hole in the backframe is a bad design from yamaha and that it really sucks.

After reading your post about slamming the sled up and down or tapping the ice of after riding I really beginning to wonder if there is something "wrong" with the snow I am driving in because I'l probebly need to use a really big sledge hammer to get the ice to slip from tunnel.

Dont think the ice build up this sleds can be considered as "normal" Yamaha must have been thinking weight..weight..weight, building this sled because of the lack of any coolers at all in the back frame. If the coolers had been there I think that I wouldnt have such a big ammount of icebuild up in my tunnel.

Its good reading and also nice to see this sled hanging in a weight in a showroom showing how light it is but what is the meaning of building this sled without backframe coolers to save weight when the weight of the icebuild up during driving is 10 times as heavy as it would have been with coolers...

Pic aint of my sled. Its taken from this forum but I have experienced exactly the same.

No one has a "problem" admitting anything. For some of us it's not a big deal that a little snow hits the back of our legs. Shoot on a few real powdery days last year (few and far between) I got the same amount on the attak. As far as the ice? With the Attak you'd just kick it or lift it up and down and it would slide off. No biggie.

That you'd need a "sledgehammer" to get a little ice off the tunnel is ridiculous.

Its ridiculous to compare the phazer icebuild up with the attak's. You probebly havent many miles on a phazer in cold powder conditions if you meen that I just have to lift the sled up and drop it or kick it to have the ice to slip.

I have no problem with snow on my legs :-o Shall close the hole in tunnel, just waiting on the alu-plate ;)!

Just cover the hole if you think its a big problem. My hole has been covered for 250km now with no problems.

Adding two pictures, one of mine with the hole covered and my buddys stock machine. pictures are taken att the end of a whole day of riding.

Thats the way to go

See you have changed to freeride track. Does it work well or is it a overkill for the stock phazer?

The freeride track worked really good. I am very pleased with it.

500 miles on the phazer, and the hole in the tunnel is not an issue. No snow has caused and problems with the rider to this point.

With the snow we got here in Winnipeg the other day, the hole in the tunnel was a definite issue.

Everybodys snowmobiles had alot of snow on them, but the Phazer hole had turned most of that snow to ice.

I dont have a heated garage here in Winnipeg, so its a real issue trying to get all that ice off before the next ride.

Its not being picky, its a simple fact, the snow insnt the issue, its the ice. Its at least 50+ lbs on there, minimum.

wet feet

I have similar problems with water as well. Not inches but wet feet. I have sorrells, and never experienced this before. I went and bought new boots and even waterproof sprayed them. No difference. Now I went and bought rubber insulated ones like you did and hope this will be it. When it is cold the back of my leather suit is full of ice from the middle of my back to the bottom of my pants. This is after installing the factory side shields. They do not work. Just bit a big hole in my wallet. I was so dissapointed in this problem that I was ready to trade it in. But the dealer assured me that they will come out with a recall on the tunnel hole and water spray issue that I just have to be patient becaust there is a lot of units out there and it will cost yamaha a lot of money and they want to do it right the first time. Otherwise love the ride, handling and performance!

I went to my dealer yesterday and discussed the water issue, the black rubber seal under the seat is a double lipped seal, however I decided to take some clear silicone and run a continuous thick bead at a 45 from behind the seat bracket under the rubber seal all the way to the front of the tunnel where it is open in the corner. I am hoping this will help divert the water away from my pant legs and boots. Also a bead underneath the black bracket to let the water drop down. It will be 10 days before I can get to my sled and try this. I figure anything is worth a try other than wearing a body condom.

Phazerwill do you have any pics of this. For the past 4 days my boots have been completely drenched and ended up having to wear a different set of boots to let my regular ones dry out inside. My wife rode my sled for one day and had complete wet feet. She will not ride the Phazer again and it is a real upset that Yamaha doesn't see the problem here. :o|
