Well, I picked up my 07 FX Phazer last night. All the recalls are fixed, a fan is installed, the tunnel is closed and a radiator guard is on order. I am sure that I will miss the power of my Attak, but I am convinced I will have more fun tossing the Phazer around. However, only time will tell. If it does not work out, I will get a RTX Nitro next year and keep the Phazer for the wife.

did your dealer close the tunnel or was that something you did?

The dealer closed the tunnel with Yami blue aluminum covers designed as the fix. It looks a bit unfinished, but still looks alright. The 08's look much better with the factory installed molding which closes the tunnel.

congrats on the new ride!! You might find the "closed tunnel" side panel things keep the ice off the running boards but the ice will still be all over the inside of the tunnel. Probley not a problem. Closing the tunnel as I've seen pic's on this site is sheetmetal over the rearmost hole preventing snow from melting on contact with the muffler and icing the entire underside of the tunnel and running boards. I havn't done this but I think I will because I think a big chunk of ice will fall and get sent to the front enilating my heat exchanger at some point. Possible maybe, but it'll keep the boards kleen too. So congrats and

that's great, i love my attak, but i have the phaser fx too, when you started the phaser with the fan how long before it overheated?

Oh, ok you got the side skirts put on... yeah I had that done too. I thought you meant you closed the larger hole in the rear of the tunnel. That is something I'm still thinking about.

don't be afraid to close the hole in the tunnel, makes life much nicer and there are no ill side effects, and i ran mine in the mountains at +10C. everything was fine.

closeing the main big hole can cause perfomance loss. the exhaust is desinged to stay cool and creat a low pressure vacum and pretty much suck the exaust out of the motor. when it gtes ober heated it creates backpresure and its like putting a smaller pipe on. same idea if ur muffler on ur car gets clogled itll run like crap.

SharkAttak - I have not started the Phazer yet, and do not plan on doing so until my first ride to ensure proper breakin. Therefore, I do not know how the fan will work.

Almost forgot - I also ordered the 08 rear linkage. This sled will be meticulously maintained, but also will be pushed to the limit. The last thing I want is for a ride to be ruined because the linkage failed - as reported by several people on this site.

BS! The holes in tunnel/cooling of exhaust have nothing to do with engine performance. The only reason that yamaha made this holes was to prevent the possibility of a melt down of the gas tank, seat and rear plastic covers around the muffler.
I have this info direct from a yamaha engineer!

Also the more heat you keep in the pipe the better it will perform.Hence ceramic coatings and header wraps.

Closed the hole in my new FX and I've never even ridden it (it's a new left over 07),.. not scared one bit about a meltdown.
