This is a great sled for wives that aren't very big and that don't like the high HP sleds like the other Yamaha's. My wife loves her Phazer GT with one exception, the seat.
It's like an old banana bike seat, narrow and hard as a rock. For short rides it's not bad, I find the narrow aspect of it comfortable. But if you are out for a full day or a series of full days like on a trip, it gets old. It's just too hard.
Has anyone found an alternative?? Does Boss or Mountain Performance make anything that would be more comfortable?

I thought the exact opposite, I normally stand.
and I decided to sit for a while today, I was
impressed how comfy the seat is. I guess I should try sitting
now and again

Im with coug I think the seat should be a little firm to keep you alert ,not like a couch.

Yeah, you guys want a couch with a motor. The Phazer is not a sit-down sled. I wish the seat were lighter and less cushy.

This is a light sled perfect for my Wife! except for the seat. It was the only sled in the line up fit for her.
She wants a couch with a motor as I suspect many do.
I guess I never felt I or she had to enjoy a PITA just to ride. I suppose you get teeth pulled without Novocain as well!

Don't let 'em bug ya RedRX1, I was going to post the exact same question.
There should be no reason a person couldn't have a bolt-on cushy seat for the wife or those days you might just want to go for a casual cruise. I realize the detractors on this thread probably don't do much casual cruising and that's fine, please don't disrespect the people who do.

I'm with you Redrx1!
We thought the Phazer was the best 4-stroke for my wife to ride but soon found out it was not. In an attempt to smooth this sled out I have had the shocks (All 4) revalved and the front 3 set up with dual rate springs. While it is greatly improved, the shocks are going back in to be tweeked again and I will be looking into seat options like you are. I will be talking to local re-upholstering shops as well as looking to Mountain Mod and Boss.
Our season is winding down so I'll be doing these things prior to next season. I want this sled to be as comfortable as the Doo GSX we sold this season. We love riding 4-stroke sleds but need to have a smooth light weight sled for her to ride sitting down. A comfortable seat is a big part of the equasion.

Although I would buy a lighter seat there is definitly a need for those who want to sit.Why not?I am seeing all types and ages riding our machines.
I would do it myself.Seat is alot like dirtbikes. It would be easy to take cover off and cut some foam off then add a gel insert like for the Goldwings or just have more material added to bottom of cover so you can add some wider foam at top.A hump in seat also is a nice feature to add some comfort and keep you where you belong.

- 2010 FXNytro MTX 162 SE with a 270 hp MCX Turbo and assorted goodies!
I bought this sled for my wife also. While I probably should have bought a GT, I bought the FX, so I could tool around on it too. Both have the same seat, so...... is the GT meant for ditch bangers? I don't think so. GT=GROOMED TRAIL!!!
With that said, I think the seat down outright sucks for sitting. And what is a seat meant to be for? Not standing.
I have an 08 FXNytro MTX and I spend almost all the time standing while riding off trail, BUT when I ride the groomed trail in and out of the mountains, I SIT!!! And that seat is the best!!! It is a couch!!! And I love it.
Back to the phazer seat, it is the poorest excuse for a seat since a 1970 SL338. I too am looking to do something to make my wife more comfy. I will be looking at some aftermarket alternatives, just cause I am not much of a fabricator when it comes to these things. I like them to look pretty sano.
So, who agrees a seat is for sitting?

I agree that a seat is for sitting on, it kinda goes without saying. I have also found that the seat can get annoying after sitting down for a long time. However the times that I sit down for long periods are few and far between. I have found this seat to be excellent for mobility when sitting or standing, much better than more couch like seats. I for one will always sacrifice comfort for performance and what little comfort this seat lacks, it more than makes up for in mobility. just my .02

I guess what I was saying before is that I find the seat comfy
granted I haven't ridden for 100's of miles on a weekend trip,
but I put about 50 miles on sunday, and the ride back when I
decided to sit on the trail, I liked it. Of course I'm comparing it
to the ride of my 95 XCR, so take that with a grain of salt.

The phazer seat is firm, but I really like the seat.
I suppose I can see a complaint in the beginning, but to me its like riding a bike. The first ride of the spring your butt is sore, but after a few more rides your butt is broke in! LOL
