Here are some pics of my installed Prosport Digital Gauge, along with my Lake Effect Riser on my 2012 Apex XTX. I really think that the gauge compliments the factory gauge cluster, and it is kind of cool in that when the temperature rises, there are leds along the outer circumferance that change from green to yellow to red as the temperature rises.
Regarding the Lake Effect Riser, I have to take my hat off to Chris at Lake Effect. I at first purchased the Rox Adjustable riser that Yamaha has in their catalog, along with the pivot adapter. But the one thing that you don't get told, is that you are unable to keep the factory trim ring around the steering column after installation. I thought that w/o the ring, it detracts from the bling of the sled, so I returned it. I called Chris, and he was VERY accomodating, and we came up with this setup. I think it complements the color scheme of the sled well. Now if it would only snow, as you may have noticed the "00000" on the odometer!!! :exc:

I like the temp gauge, gotta get me one of those.

I check them out on line, can you provide a list/part # of what you purchased, i.e. which gauge pod you used and I believe the hose fitting is 1"

Hi Kaz, Thanks
Just an FYI w/ having the water-T in the vertical hose, I started my sled just to see that there were no leaks and that everything was working correctly and to bleed the system, (first time since picking up the sled), and the temp started to rise in less than 30 seconds it seemed. There was not an issue w/ the thermostat keeping water from flowing and reading the temperature readily.

For the gauge, it was Prosport # PSWTLCD $55.75

For the gauge pod, it was, again Prosport, part # PS216SMCUP $15.00
Here is that link from the same company: http://prosportgauges.com/52mm_Premium_ ... g_Cup.aspx

For the 26mm or 1" water-T, I got it off of ebay-(26mm water temperature gauge) will get you to it. $15.99-free shipping....(UPDATE- I would recommend a 25mm water-T, as the 26mm is a really tight fit, and had to really work at it to get it on)
Here is a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/26mm-Water-temp ... 23171fccd0

All items arrived quickly, and the gauge pod is really a decent low profile design with a metal base that has cutouts/reliefs to allow it to conform to the curvature of the Apex's dash cover. Hope this helps someone!

I noticed in your fourth picture that you have an HID ballast. I mounted mine in the same location. You will love having HID's!

I also noticed the billet gas cap. I thought about getting one but I am worried about it getting stolen while parked outside a bar or hotel.

I like your temp gauge better than my Daytona temp gauge because of the color change feature that will catch your eye even if you are not looking right at it.

I also paid more ($100) for the Daytona with the sender. I guess that I know which one I will put on my next Apex!

Blue Dave,
Yeah, between the SledStart wiring and the HID's and a Powercommander V wiring, I was looking for places for the ballasts. Ended up there. My other one is mounted upside down, on the other side, on the headlight mount.

Yes, I do have some concerns with that gas cap, just hoping that other Yammi operators will respect the tuning fork!

For my Viper, I had originally bought that Daytona Gauge, but It just does not stand-out to be seen in case you are overheating, so I returned it. I instead ended up with a Cyberdyne type from ebay. Bought one that had a max-temp recall and it would start to flash when you got to a certain temperature that you could set. I found this gauge, after seeing it on another member's sled, and thank it will do the job even better.

You would certainly like to think that fellow Yamaha riders would respect our sleds but there are always those loosers that would rather steal yours than buy their own. I would definitely carry your original gas cap with you just in case the jerk that steals your billet cap it is not thoughtful enough to put his plastic one back on your sled!

I've got the same gage on my Nytro, works well except it can be difficult to read it in direct sunlight.

26mm adapter was extremely hard to get in the vertical hose of my 09 RTX. I'm sure it is a 7/8" hose.

I ordered the SLP water temp sensor adapter off ebay, same one Ulmer sells in his kit, $10 + shipping. For us Canadians it's $20+ to ship for a total of around $32. Hopefully they cut me a break on the shipping costs.

Royal Distributing sells them for like $36, hopefully I will be ahead of the game.

Both the vertical & horizontal hoses that attach to the lower half of the thermostat housing will always contain coolant circulating at the actual engine temperature since they are both on the engine side of the thermostat. That is why Yamaha has the OEM coolant temperature sensor on this side of the thermostat.

I am not sure why Ulmer recommends putting the sensor in the horizontal hose. It would seem to me that the vertical hose is a better location as there is more room to splice it in. I have mine in the horizontal hose but it is a real tight fit and it pushes the thermostat housing out slightly.
