Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

question..does anyone consider themselves an extreme trail rider and if so how are they working?
Hi SJ,yes I consider myself when I am riding,an exstreme rider,i had these 5.7 with 7.5 shaper carbides on my 13 procross,ya they can and will dart some times,if you get into a lot of different tracks in one trail, but when I want them to turn, they turn, plain and simple. Now the guy that just rebuilt my sled, came away today with a smile on his face, and for the first time today,he said he might snowcheck a red and white 137 LTX-LE,he now likes the way it handles and rides, plus it now transfers just right. Can you resend me your number SJ,lost in my files.

I would consider myself that... and i LOVE them! my sled just rails in the corners. they are predictable and i can dive into the corners with confidence. When i first put them on, i thought HOLY these are HUGE!! but i gotta say, they work great!

what studding?

it appears on this site the only way to get decent transfer is to install the MTX tunnel !And then lower the hole an inch !
Seriously !!!!!!!
Surely those of you that I rely on for upgrades , can do better than what snowbeast stumbled on !

this is where I am concerned of pushing...Im 192 1.630 !!!!

maybe shaper bar both spots?
The way you stud SJ, Its tough to be trail friendly....You definitely need the MOST carbide.

Problem with Pilots is they only allow for a true max of 7.5" as they are a short runner design, its why they are light effort.

You MIGHT consider looking into the pilot "R" ski...and for MY18, the newest access catalog has the NEW Pilot R2. Its not as wide as 6.9 but many dont need the width, and its a more aggressive ski. I see it as a C&A Copy sorta, but cheaper. Wont have as light of effort as a pilot but with your stud setup you wont turn with a non aggressive ski.

The exact reason in my tight twistys I only stud up the middle....not a big drag racer but a bigtime hard corner to corner rider, We flog it hard in our tight system.

Hmm.. What to do... have the 6.9s now...
Im sure you can make them work, if you are not on alot tight twisties it may be a mute point.

Id lean toward shaper in center, think 7.5 is biggest if I recall? Not so sure any large ones outers makes a difference in turning, but I do think it adds to heavy steering, so id start with stocker on outer and go from there.

Let me know how they turn with them big studs...;)

SJ, i can tell you that i want positive steering regardless of effort. This is why i have been a Simmons guy with tank like effort at slow speeds. I would rather get bite when i want it than hope the skis bite when i need it. Put shapers on the 6.9"s and you got yourself a good combo. An added bonus is less effort. I have said it before and have no problem stating that these 6.9"s work damn good and this is comparing it to my Attak with Simmons that rails with the best of them.

I'm trying curves with 6"shapers, studded up the middle. Deciding on 3 per row or 4/2 pattern.
I put in 144 , 1.5's with the 4-2 pattern .
I believe that if you want/need to add more studs , the 4-2 pattern is easier to add to the 2's.
My sled is the LTX LE 137 , and spins too much even with the studs I have .
I am thinking either just add some more studs to the stock 1.25 Ripper track , or go to the 1.5 ripper , of which I have had on others sleds ,and it was a great upgrade .
If I can get more transfer , that may minimize the hook up issue .

If you guys can find them the old handles from the single keel Yamaha skis fit 6.9's. Such as Nytro,Apex and Phazer had before Tuners.

the tip and base of the handle being wider...whats the preferred way you recommend trimming these areas down to fit?

I have done them 3 diff ways with those older Yam handles...grinder, cutoff wheel, and nicest was a band saw(woodworking) which did a nice job.

Also a good "chop saw" or what some call a power miter saw. Or even an old school hand miter saw.

I will be pulling my pilot 6.9s off my 1200 and installing them onto my new SW next fall, I told my dealer I dont even want the stock skis. LOL
