Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

Good to Know Joe.....I wondered if a 1/2" round on OUTER would heavy things up, but sounds like its ok.

I have only always run 'stock' wimpy SQUARE 7/16" 4" inchers on outers, as I have always felt they are simply a "plastic edge saver" more then doing much of anything for handling. Certainly a 1/2'' host on outer will hang down more and have more contact then the 7/16", So i had thought it would be too heavy.

Since NEW sleds and/or the Pilot 5.7 "kit" all come with the wimpy 7/16 square, these are what I used on outers and had excellent results.

Seems to me, ANY of the pilot setups on this SW chassis can/will handle very nicely with just about ANY single carbide setup(likely 1/2" host minimum center) and any outer to keep edge from wearing out. Where as the DOO XP/XS chassie was so finiky and with just a tad too much carbide would become ultra DARTY. I tried a SHAPER(6'' and 7.5'') on both pilots(5.7/ 6.9) on Both my 2s DOO and my 4s doo.....And the results were horrible darting on firm trails, and HEAVY steering on hardpack.

So its nice to see how the front end of the SW chassie seems to be just fine when it comes to darting or heaviness when using just about 'any' pilot ski/Carbide combo.

Dan
There were a couple guys on DooTalk with 1200's who put 6 inch shapers on the outside and kept the stock 4 inch bars in the center and they claimed it turned great without heavy steering.

Tried shapers once on outers, and it was massive....I think it was my etec if i recall...

The shaper on outer is really deep, much moreso then a round 1/2" bar.

bringing this back around...got loops installed and used aluminum bolts....will add shapers center and round outside.....thanks Dan for the excellent right up..

I'm ready

Dan, it may have been said earlier in this thread, but the original Tuners could be set up wide or narrow. Do the 6.9's have the same adjustment?

the sled has an adjustment with the spacer for narrow or wide ski stance....dan has covered this in the beginning of this thread...but ...yes...wide is accounted for

I have mine set in the widest position and I gotta say it makes things a pita in the trailer! Awesome on the trail though!

anyone try shaper center and shaper outside?
6" shapers in the middle and 4" round bars outside work great Dual shapers are to much

Just installed my 6.9's couldn't of done it with out this write up. Thanks a million Dan!!

I pulled my 6.9s off my 4tec doo....they still look decent but dont think they last quite as long as the 5.7s over time. They tend to bend up on outrigger after some miles. Still best handling I think, and cheap.

I am taking my new SW without skis....and my 6.9s will go onto the new SW.

Man I hope we get a good winter!

As Fatchance stated about the 6.9s, I'm also concerned about loading the sled in the trailer. I'm leaning towards the 5.7s for the simple reason, the ""ONLY"" off trail riding I do is up in Maine when we venture into the Allagash on the lakes. The more I research these tuner ski's it seems ""ANY"" ski is a improvement!!

Voodoo. I have my 6.9" pilots set to the widest stance so that's where the "squeezing" effect comes from in the trailer. I could knock the stance down by 2 inches just by changing the spacers on the saddles. I don't trailer much at all and keep the sled in the garage so I didn't bother with it. That said, they are wide even on the narrow stance. I would measure it for you but my sled is hundreds of miles from me.
