Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

SJ,i have the same sled as yours and same amount of studs, only they are shorter than yours, and my sled has my old 5.7 pilots I had on my 13 kitty, with 7.5 shapers on,and now that it is going again,it rails awesome, and we have our share of tight twisty trails here to. As you know testing and testing will always bring results, sometimes good, sometimes not.

On my 12 cat I ran 5.7 pilots with 7.5 shapers center and stock 4" outers...that sled railed.

For those that want a cheaper solution then 6.9s which are not really that pricey to begin with, you can buy a BRAND NEW 5.7 "KIT" from BRP with carbides for outers, handles, rivet kit, bolts, rubbers....most good dealers sell the kit for $199 only! Just need to buy a bigger center carbide IMO.

well ...Im not the wood worker (with plastic) you are dan....I already biffed up one loop doh! we'll see if we can doctor it up some..lol

What years were those Handle from anyway? I am thinking mid 2000s? I may see if I can search up a used RED pair, that I can mod to fit my 6.9s, I like the ones that say yamaha on them.

Just a question, why do we have 19 pages on how to mount a set of skis?

Just placed an order for my 6.9's and loops. Still undecided on what carbides to run. Ran triple points on my procross and Xrs with good results. And I can go right to the shop and pick them up. 230 bucks is a lot to put into carbides though. I guess I've got all summer to think about it.

Never liked Triple points....they square off rather quickly, and while they stay there a long time, they DONT TURN once squared off well at all....I much prefer a 60 degree carbide for 60 bucks(far far cheaper then bergstrom TPs) and changing them out every season, and having a sharper steering sled all the time.

it appears on this site the only way to get decent transfer is to install the MTX tunnel !And then lower the hole an inch !
Seriously !!!!!!!
Surely those of you that I rely on for upgrades , can do better than what snowbeast stumbled on !
Sledroll, alot of it has to do with the studs we use,and how they are placed,it does have a direct effect on transfer, also soft snow helps some to.You could drill a new set of holes in your rails, foward of where they are now, just drill it 1/2" instead of 1"i know it makes a huge difference.

I have 7.5 shapers in the center and 5 inch Doo round bars on the outside of my 6.9's. I was afraid they would be too much but now after putting some miles on them in various conditions I'm pretty happy with them.

Good to Know Joe.....I wondered if a 1/2" round on OUTER would heavy things up, but sounds like its ok.

I have only always run 'stock' wimpy SQUARE 7/16" 4" inchers on outers, as I have always felt they are simply a "plastic edge saver" more then doing much of anything for handling. Certainly a 1/2'' host on outer will hang down more and have more contact then the 7/16", So i had thought it would be too heavy.

Since NEW sleds and/or the Pilot 5.7 "kit" all come with the wimpy 7/16 square, these are what I used on outers and had excellent results.

Seems to me, ANY of the pilot setups on this SW chassis can/will handle very nicely with just about ANY single carbide setup(likely 1/2" host minimum center) and any outer to keep edge from wearing out. Where as the DOO XP/XS chassie was so finiky and with just a tad too much carbide would become ultra DARTY. I tried a SHAPER(6'' and 7.5'') on both pilots(5.7/ 6.9) on Both my 2s DOO and my 4s doo.....And the results were horrible darting on firm trails, and HEAVY steering on hardpack.

So its nice to see how the front end of the SW chassie seems to be just fine when it comes to darting or heaviness when using just about 'any' pilot ski/Carbide combo.
