pinched lower oil line - WARNING

This is a real flukey deal, but I'll post this as a warning just the same. Apparently, the side covers and belly pan on the new Nytros like to leak some snow and the snow tends to build up under the motor and the oil can. I am intimately aware of a sled that had this occur and the snow built up and froze, pinching off the lower oil line. The sled was opened up, full throttle, on a lake, started to lose RPMs rapidly and went boom. Knocked a hole through the case. Bad words were spoken.

The line would have probably let enough oil pass at trail speeds, but at full tilt boogie the bearings were starved and ultimately failed, causing various metal pieces to be scattered across the landscape.

This is probably an isolated, oddball deal, but if you have luck like I do, you might appreciate the warning.

I too noticed the snow and ice built up under the engine. I'll keep this in mind while out riding. Thanks for the heads up.

On a side note, would drilling some holes in the belly pan help prevent the melted water from forming up and freezing???

I saw that I mine too, I thought it was that I didn't get the side cover on all the way....Good to know and I will defiantly keep an eye on that. If any of you are seeing this often please take some pics and get those to the dealer with your VIN number.

I've seen everything tried. Probably just RTV around the cover seams is best. This is such a pain in the a++ because the seal breaks whenever the cover has to be removed, but I don't know what else you'd do. I've heard a lot of people complain about snow moving through the left footwell too and making your foot cold/wet. Obviously, this is a problem. I don't know if drilling holes would make it better or worse? I suppose you could drill a couple the right size to plug with a grommet if it didn't work.

every sled i have owned always injested snow while riding in powder,nikolai had some pics in the mountain section..i did that,plus i covered the hole by the oil tank(it lets alot of snow in),the hole in front of the headlight,did a little bit of black rtv on the front end,and stuff'd a big chunk of some water resistant filter material(we have at work)in the nose cone..no problems now with ice anywhere under the hood or engine
