I hope to get started pulling the engine apart soon, and when I do, time will be an issue...so if I need parts, I don't want to have to wait while I make up my mind picking what I need. So, just in case I wind up doing a full top end rebuild, I want to have pistons picked out. I found that Wiseco offers pistons in stock and 1mm overbore. The stock bores are 13:1 compression, and the overbores are 12:1. I know the stock ratio is 11.8:1. I'm hoping not to have to bore the cylinders (fairly low miles on this engine), but is there any chance for the 13:1 pistons to work with premium pump gas? I'm strictly into trail riding, so performance isn't the highest priority...reliability is. I know the 12:1 won't be an issue if I have to bore.

Anyone know about how much pistons run from the dealer?

Last question...if I'm in there already, are there any good cams that would give a good performance increase without hurting trail performance?

Thanks.
Jim

I'm confused. If your strictly into trail riding, why are you thinking of jacking the compression and camming up the engine???

Hi

First...sorry I got this in the wrong group...I meant to put it in Engine, but I had multiple windows open and managed to send the post to the wrong one. Anyway...I should have specified that my riding is "performance trail", running fairly hard on a regular basis. The motor is most likely going to need to be ringed at minimum, due to my oil usage issue, and I don't really want to bump the compression...I just haven't found many options for pistons. As I said, the only things Wiseco offers are stock bore in 13:1, 1mm overbore in 12:1, and 10:1 turbo pistons. I don't want a turbo, and I don't want to have to bore unless I'm forced to, so that leaves 13:1 or pistons from the dealer...and I'm trying to avoid dealer parts, since they are the reason my sled started burning oil with under 1000 miles. Now at around 5,000, I use twice as much oil as my two stroke buddies. For the cams, I'm not really that interested, just trying to get ideas since the engine will be apart anyway. And if I have to use the 13:1 pistons, they will most likely require cams to work efficiently anyway.
