Project Mid Mount Vector

Vortech

Heck, I just said screw it and ordered a vortech from summit racing overnighted. I want it to work good, I need it to work good. If I don't need it I will just not put it on. In the mountains there is no room for a BOV to not work good.

Good plan, I love the vortec it works so nice and is so sensitive. It does take longer to bleed off the boost I notice when I chop the throttle it will spike to 13-15lbs for a split second. Maybe that is normal for any BOV.

That might be something to do with the supercharger. If it is wicked fast response like this say it better not spike the boost. I really didn't have the money to spend on it but I really hate having a disgruntle sled in the mountains.

I dont think the vortec is so much the speed but the low level of vacumn that makes it better. It opens much sooner then a regular BOV would. rxrider has it and had to add the tial to help bleed off the rest of the boost as he explained in his garage post.

How much are you going to run, I run 10-11psi so it only jumps just for a quick sec and the sled doesn't respond or do anything but what I want it to do. If I didn't have the boost gauge I wouldn't even see it, or feel it happening.

Have fun! Cant wait for the videos!

Sounds good ! What vortech did you go with?

It is the maxflow. I am not sure i have it set quite right now but I am pretty happy with it. What should I set it to open. How many inches of vaccum?

I would set it barely open @ idle

sounds good

I will change it to be just starting to open at idle. I have pretty decent vaccum still so i know that it is not set how it should be. I get 8 hg of vaccum at idle.

Even if the Vortech is one of the fastest responding Race Bypass Valves (it's not a BOV actually :-) it will spike boost if the amount of air needed to be bled away is larger than the Valves capacity. That's why I'm going with an additional TiAL Q 50mm valve, the Vortech passed it's capacity causing turbo flutter at 18+ lbs boost, I'm running it at 22 lbs. In my configuration the TiAL is definitively needed.

You're gonna love the Vortech, as I said it's doing it's job great up to 18 lbs.

That's coming from the BOV

Do you have issues when chopping the throttle? Give the baby wot and make her wheelie - chop throttle and apply brakes - and slame the front skies hard to the ground . This will give you the answer you are looking for - she will either flame out or be perfect;-) adjust bov if needed

Wheelie

Haha, the sled won't even hook up on the snow we have here right now, we got a half inch of rain the mid of last week and the snow is all rock hard ice now and the powderclaw won't bite in. I don't have the problems with flame out here in mn that i have at 8000+ feet out in the mountains. I don't think I could get it to flame out right now though.
