RX1 Impulse Mid Mount Conversion Project

Thought I'd post an update for those who are interested. I've had the sled out for 8 days so far (rode the Nytro a few days) and it hasn't missed a beat. The only issue I've had and it was my fault is I reused the oil supply line from my old setup and one of the fittings started to leak, the only one I didn't replace of course. The sled does everything better. A side benefit was the handling improvement by going to the Rev fuel tank and moving the fuel load off the front of the sled. Knowing what I do now I'd put the Rev tank on any turbo or stock setup as the stock Yami tank is a terrible design as far as weight distribution goes. I gotta hand it to Doo cause they figured that one out in 03, but the Rev was designed as amountain sled first in Summit form so there you go. Even the Nytro has the fuel up front which is fine for a trail sled but stupid for a mountain sled. The fuel thing alone would be enough to sway me to the Impulse kit, the change is that dramatic. I haven't gotten nearly as tired as I used to riding the old front mount system. The sled is still a lightweight heavy pig but it's now a balanced heavy pig so it's pretty easy to ride.

I ride at 15 lbs and for me that's plenty I haven't turned out once this year and I've done some pulls that flat out scared the crap out of me, so now that I know what it'll do I'll probably run it closer to 12 or 13 and be happy with that.

X2 on the REV tank and weight distro, I totally agree.

Thanks to RX1M5, Im going to try sledding again. The kit I have made me quit sledding, JUNK !. So this summer, plan is to copy what he did. ;)!

hey what kind of oil feed/return are you using for you midmount? looks great by the way

The oil feed is one of those ones with the spacer on the oil filter with the line coming off just like MCX uses. I originally bought the oil kit from Powderlites but have since upgraded some of the parts. The oil return is from Impulse using his fittings that go into the timing plug hole.

It is a really nice job you have done there!!
I am thinking about doing the tank mod on my sled too.
I need a higher seat anyway, so this will be a nice mod. Do you think that it is possible to mount the tank without cutting of the exhaust "bump" on the chassi?. Maybe by using some brackets on the sides?.Or will it be too high in the front?.
How did you solve the fuelsender issue?.

Im doing the same thing to my RX1 right now. The yamaha center section has to be replaced or cut out as the bottom of the rev tank is flat. I tried it, trust me it wont work.

I know it has a flat bottom, but i was thinking of building up the chassi with something to the same hight as the "exhaustbump".In that way there will be a flat surface for the tank. I am just wondering if the gascap will be placed too high if i do that. I need the extra hight on the seat too, because i am a tall guy ;)

Think it might look kinda funny, dont know anybody that builds a seat like you would need to cover up the sides. The Rev tank filler neck is about even with the top of the steering hop/delta box. If you go higher the fuel tank cowel will look werid. You also have to move your steering post to the front side of the alu support, kinda like an apex. Wildchild on snowest builds a kit to move the stem from the back to the front. If you search on here for RxRider, he has very good pics of putting a rev seat on a RX1. Dont think boss seats makes customs seats anymore, maybe Mountain Mod would make you a taller seat.
