Is there a reasonable preventative fix for this?

Those bodies are under $100 US.
Ya I figured worst case a body would be around $100. Mines too bad to leave the way it is. I’m heading to my dealer now, hopefully they can warranty me a new shock.
But there needs to be some sort of a solution, I might just go to a regular spring, don’t want to be fixing this every season.
Open to ideas. Dirt grinding between crossover and body of shock is issue. Spring being crooked doesn’t help.Is there a reasonable preventative fix for this?
No. Even 100lb rider will compress that tender spring and the crossover.Yah, I had my skid out over the weekend and after 2 seasons the entire skid, shocks included, looks mint. Is it possible this a 200 lb plus rider issue?

Yup a 140/250 is not what i expected but its very weak.
Ok I think this will work. Maybe. For now will be putting on all refreshes or revalves of Center QS3 with crossover at no cost. This stuff will not rip or tear but I am not sure it will stay in there. Its a perfect fit and crossover slides nice on it but its hand fitted and no guarantee it will stay. Your preferred preload will have to be set before applying this.
Second alternative is straight rate spring. This will effect handling for the better in my opinion but it is rider preference since if set tight will make front end light and may be slightly harsher on very small bumps. I prefer this setup but opinions always differ. I can get these 160lb straight rate springs for $70. The Cat dual rate WILL NOT FIT it hits the rezzy. If you wait too long the shock will be damaged beyond simple fix. New body can be put on for $150 including refresh. Will have one of each in stock.
Came up with a better/thinner material. UHMW. Free Upgrade with a refresh!160lb Straight Rate Spring is $70.

Just an update, my dealer sent the pics to Yamaha, and they said I must have had the spring adjusted with too much preload. Wish I could say I was surprised by that answer. The head mechanic and sales guy confirmed that the spring was in the stock preload position, so now waiting for another response from Yamaha. Hopefully will know tomorrow.
More preload would be less wear anyway. Good luck. PM me your address when you get new shock can put that protector on. Hi jacked your thread so least I can do!

Haha thanks for the offer. I will likely go with a different spring and eliminate the issue all together tho. If we lived in the same country I would send my shocks to you for service, but skipping cross border twice would suck.

Would a stock nytro spring work? I have one of those laying around.
I cant remember if they were barrel shaped or not? The spring has to be straight or it hits the rezzy. Try it. Not sure the rate of them though.Would a stock nytro spring work? I have one of those laying around.

I have over 20 oookm on my ELKA shock Other than "rocks chip" on the bottle central shock, no sing of wear like that.:-(
Maybe the cross over plastic type and "dirt escape channel" is the reason why
I have ride many different spring setup, single and dual rate. I always come back to dual rate 303/224 (5,4/4,0) whit short crossover to stay longer possible on the riding rate ~~130lbs

Yamaha is going to replace my shock under warranty. However, it is back ordered and they don’t have an ETA for me right now.
