So, I hit a rock or stump that impacted the frame rail by the chain case which is now leaking. Anyone know if the clean-looking "split" shown in this picture (runs at a 45* angle) is the way the frame is manufactured or was a result of the impact? It looks too clean to be a rupture...

Invest in the plastic Yamaha skid plate. It protects a lot better then you would think, It works very well.

Thanks - already on that path. Any thoughts about the "slit" in the frame? Looks like it might be how it was manufactured rather than split open from the impact.Invest in the plastic Yamaha skid plate. It protects a lot better then you would think, It works very well.

I don't recall seeing a slit in the frame like that on ours but we already have the skid plates on and its been awhile. I did look at some older pictures in my album before installing our skid plates and I don't see a slit but its also hard to tell. That slit sure looks clean in your picture thought. Need to have someone that doesn't have a skid plate take a look at theirs.

I should have mentioned that there's also a matching slit on the left (clutch) side which was also impacted. I'm thinking (hoping) it was a tight manufacturing "seam" that got opened up by the hit, and that it's not a new split.I don't recall seeing a slit in the frame like that on ours but we already have the skid plates on and its been awhile. Just went and checked, frame slits are there on mine also, not much different than yours.

Thanks, guys! Good t know. Now I just need to find out why/where the chain case is leakingJust went and checked, frame slits are there on mine also, not much different than yours.
Strange. I have looked at those, but I can't tell how it mounts. From what I can see, it looks like it might mount using the chain case cover bolts... If it bolts to the frame, it looks like it would provide good protection - certainly more than the useless plastic cover that's there now
Looks to me it uses same screws as plastic one. I would recommend a full factory skidplate.
Dreams over I deleted it after 2 weeks of you not replying whether or not you were selling those. Quit being a pain you know you can talk about them any time you want since you aren't selling them but instead you just want to make a scene. On Facebook and here. Get over it. I said I was sorry for the misunderstanding. I am not a mind reader and not perfect.Sorry. We are not allowed. To talk about them here...
