Real World 1500 Mile Low Down of new Ski Doo XR-S 900 Turbo vs. SideWinder

Snowmobiling is an incurable disease, needing treatments on a regular basis.

Sidewinders have shown promise in reducing cholesterol, increasing awareness, raising heart rates, and possibly reducing effects of aging. Sidewinder treatment can be expensive, though, and should not be used in conjunction with inferior products, including most ski doo, Polaris, and 2 stroke cats, as confusion may result.

As with any treatment, see your local Yamaha dealer for a test ride, and if already taking Sidewinder medication, do not stop without seriously considering the mistake you are about to make.
Thats awesome! And true.

Lmao worked for me. My parents split my first vehicle. Any I wanted from there where my dollar. Hell I got a new car every year for the next 4 years cuase i got bored with the last.
Pretty close when it came to sleds/powersports. They told me you want it get a job and buy one. So I did. Even have a good work ethic out of it.
Me too. And paid my student loans for 6 yrs.

My oldest daughter has no mechanical inclination whatsoever great riding/racing ability. Once she put flanged lug nuts on backwards and couldnt figure out why the socket wouldnt go on. Yet her taste in vehicles demands it. She did buy a nice little Ranger after talking her out of a 1972 Ford truck. Hit a deer with the ranger within a month. Women are expensive!

the winder and the new Doo is not even close in H.P. to do a comparison on. the new Doo will compare well against the Viper in terms of rider market. Both sleds are aimed at maint. free miles without adding oil and better fuel mileage. the average age of sledders that trail ride is getting older and older with each passing year. The doo is at least 3,000 less than a winder and that can pay for alot of extra sledding trips. Yes having the baddest sled on snow is an awsome feeling when mashing the fun flipper, but pure economics plays a huge role in sled purchases in many households. with Yamaha phasing out the viper ,Skidoo is looking to take that middle class of the market over. Lets face it,we have kids in college and many of us are looking ahead towards retirement. Is A 17,000 snow machine really in the budget for the majority of sled heads out there? For many people it comes down to buying your college student a reliable car or yourself A winder!

I would have thought phasing out the Apex at 150hp same class!

I can totally see an even smaller 4 stroke turbo for the midrange market. Fuel mileage with gobs of torque will win just like today's automobiles.

I think the 900 Doo turbo will be a big seller and a great trail sled. Obviously it won't compete with the Winder as far as hp but it doesn't have to. I think the Winder will be the performance leader for a very long time to come.

EXACTLY!

Yes Cat is the performance leader with Yamaha's engine! I can hardly wait for Yamaha to be the performance leader with their engine!

Just a curious question to those wanting to buy a 900T or sticking with their Winders. What's most important to you guys. Ride? Handling? Speed? Sled build quality? Comfort? Accessories? I'm just curious to know either way. For me I have tried a 3 other brands and seem to return to Ski-Doo. For a few reasons but mostly ride quality, overall build quality, with IMO superior engineering / fit and finish / materials quality, and their accessories are probably the best in the business as well.

for me its about the power , ride, quality , the sidewinder has the power ,and reability of the motor hands down . now for the ride providing its got the qs3 and handling threw the corner I'm also happy , now I can't speak for the 900 t as it to early , but the 850 etc does have there issues , in r group of 8 sleds 2 have seized up , the front end pushes in the corners , belts seemed to be better on the 18 models , a great riding sled threw the bumps , fit and finish is good , my skidoo dealer is the best in the business , always looking after us no matter the situation,

I am strictly a power junky so I've been on a turbo since '13. I feel the winder/zr package is a significant improvement over the 1100 zuk with not only a more powerful, smoother motor, but access to motor, exhaust, etc. It provides considerably easier access with the revised attaching mechanisms of the side panels and hood. I personally really like the procross chassis, I think the Cat front end is the best in the biz. Don't get me wrong I'm a Doo fan as well as I also own a 1200. It's too bad Doo has opted to stay out of the hyper sled business, I might have still been on one. There's really no argument as for accessories and ease of use, Doo is #1 by a large margin.

For me it's all about handling, power and reliability. The SW with the qs3r shocks is the best handling sled I have ever ridden. Weight doesn't mean anything to me. Especially when every doo chassis I have owned was a pile of scrap by 8k miles. They are made if tin foil. The procross is heavier but seems way more durable. The quality of the bearings they use is suspect but I'm going to replace all of them this summer with Japan bearings for piece of mind.

I don't get how doo guys always talk about 4 strokes having too much weight on the skis to handle well then they get a chassis that moves you even farther forward for, get this, more weight on the skis and they think it's the tits.

I haven't had a single die hard doo person ride my sled and not rave about how smooth it handles and how much fun it is to ride. Untill then they all run their mouth about weight this and weight that. As soon as they get some seat time they leave scratching their head. It's like a cult of brainwashed brappers over there. Lol.

For me its all about how reliable the snowmobile is and so far Yamaha has been the best. Every Ski Doo I have owned has left me on the trail so I would never own another Ski Doo ever!

Smooth reliable power. Great handling and fit and finish is coming along. Not like Japanese builds, but getting better. Winder is the best looking sled by far!
Had some time on the Doo and I think my hands are still numb from vibration.
