Real World 1500 Mile Low Down of new Ski Doo XR-S 900 Turbo vs. SideWinder

OK, back on topic.
I like the 900T.
I wonder if Yamaha turboed the Phazer motor if they could get 130ish HP which being so light would make it pretty fun.
Would it compete with the T?

The winder is a hyper sled, league of its own.
In the grand scheme of things, I personally don’t think skidoo cares about the numbers sold.
IMO the 900t was to give there 4st followers a little more.
NOW YAMAHA could build a sled as I-described earlier to blow the 900t out of the water in that hp range.
Now that’s a THREAD COMPARISON.

Yamaha could do this and Yamaha could do that. Yamaha could own the snowmobile market and put Doo out of business... and it goes on and on.

The reality is Yamaha is dead in the snowmo business and they could care less. They went to bed with Cat and combined they now are last and second last in market share. There is a reason for it and it isn't because they are the best sleds on the market.

We all talk about how great our Winders are and there is nothing like them yet many of us have sold them and moved to Doo and others are talking about it. That just doesn't make sense.

When Yamaha came out with the Sidewinder it got all of us excited and it looked like they may be coming out with a new line of Yamaha sleds. It felt good to see that Yamaha was still committed and we looked forward to what was coming next. Well here we are three years later and nothing is better in Yamaha world. It's worse now with fewer sleds offered and even Cat is using less Yamaha engines in their sleds. I fear the end is much closer than any of us are willing to admit.

I guess we can keep hoping and wishing. Heck I've been buying lottery tickets for years now and I guess I still will even though in the back of my mind my chances are pretty much nil.

The Sidewinder stands on its own as a hyper sled same as the tcat has for as long as I can remember the tcat was hp king in the market. Seems to me we can thank AC for the 3 cylinder turbo not sure Yamaha would have developed that alone. Yamaha needs to fill the Apex void but doesn’t seem to be interested and it’s going to be difficult to stay in business with only the Viper and Sidewinder. Textron cuts off Yamaha and it’s over for sure. It doesn’t look good with no long term agreement with Textron and the limited 2020 Yamaha line up.

It's good to know who the loons are in here, will consider that when reading about their take on anything sidewinder / tcat.
More on fake news, cat race dept shuts down-cat going under soon. Read it on the internet, shocked alarmists here haven't perpetuated it......did I miss it?

My theory is that all the mfgrs beginning mid 2k's, began making sleds that only appeal to the minority and vocal segment of buyers. Stand up snocrossers. I hear the same complaints year after year about very high rider cg sleds that are cold and pricey. Early 2k sleds also rode more plush, for the avg trail rider crowd.
I know the bad knee and or ditch banger crowd dont want to hear it but truth is trail touring sleds used to outsell stand up snocrossers, and now they are based on that chassis, even grand touring sleds.
I think polaris has recognized some of this with their new lower less expensive model, but is underpowered.

Arctic Cat never had a 3 cylinder turbo until the yamaha genesis motor?
Pretty easy to slap a turbo on almost anything nowadays. Aftermarket turbo kits on the vipers and apexes have been around awhile.

So sweet to have the turbo stock and shared costs with AC to develop makes it fat and profitable just how Yamaha likes it.

Interesting .....coming from a member with a grand total of 13 posts and rides a Kawasaki invader.

No serious sledder wants to go back to that garbage.
I won't deny that some of the older sleds can be slammed through a corner faster, but there is zero chance I want to go back to the dinosaur days riding position and mediocre suspensions.

Change a bit of the wording and there were remarks like this many, many years ago.
Yawn.

When is Yamaha getting out of snowmobiles ???
I haven't ridden a sled in the last 13 years that has been a must have after I have test ride ,Other than when I first rode a 06 Apex & a 2018 sidewinder. Both of which I went out and bought . I have ridden other brands , skidoo hasn't had a must buy sled yet . Polaris current 850 s are way over rated .
So unless I missed something when I last test rode a skidoo , is there something riding down the trail that they do better ? & I will look for it next year when we switch sleds .

For me if something is going to make sledding more enjoyable or it's better I will go get it , and the only thing skidoo has better is the Linq luggage bag ... which I went and bought...but there sleds don't do anything better or make it a must have ...
