I was wondering if anybody had a easy process for removing the Apex/Attak's gas tank shroud. I plan to have my hood and shrouds painted this off season.
The hood is easily removed, but then I get to the gas tank shroud, which seems to be in 2 pieces. I undid the 4 bolts/pins on the front shroud, but it appears to attach to the instrument cluster. Must I remove the instrument cluster first? It seems to require that.
Then I imagine the back shroud (the one the gas tank cap is right on top of.....) will then also be a pain to remove. Anybody know the process for removing that one?
Those are the only 3 panels I plan to remove and have painted. I drive an Attak GT, and I just want them re-painted a real deep, shiny black.
Thanks in advance.

Follow the instructions on this link;

It will be a process that you use many times.

About #3.........
... so about that #3. I got that far, but the tabs from that front piece of the shroud that goes into the speedometer cluster wont' seem to release. That is why I was wondering if I had to remove that cluster first......
The tabs on mine seem to be being held in there and won't easily pull out. I do not want to yank them out or risk damaging either the clips or the cluster. Any thoughts?

I also was wondering the same about the gas tank shroud,I also need to know how to remove the exhaust covers,I am getting all my panels airbrushed. As far as I have striped it down was to do an oil change.

Re: About #3.........
Where the tabs connect into the cluster, there is a little "bump" on the end of the tab to keep it locked into place. Press down a little on the plastic while pulling back and it should release. The next thing you will encounter is trying to get the panel around the front end of the handlebar ring..you can unscrew the two screws that hold the chrome looking handlebar ring in place - but there is enough flex in that panel that you can bend it around and off without removing the ring. If you can wait a day or so I can probably snap a few pics for you.

In order to remove the exhaust covers you need to remove the tips from the end. There are 3 bolts, but one is for show - only 2 of the bolts hold the endcap on. Once those are removed go to the front of the cover and there is a screw that holds the front onto the tunnel. After you remove the screw you will have to disconnect the cover from the center piece where the tail light is mounted. The plastic interlocks and it's pretty easy to see how it's disassembled.

I posted this earlier and someone said to remove the handle bar risor cover (the chrome one on my GT) and then the panel will slide out from under the dash. I ended up not doing that moved the headlight out but it didn't work so well, I will try the handbar one next time.
