Ripsaw-opening track windows?

Is there an easy way to open the track windows on the ripsaw (every 3rd is closed)? Do you have to add track clips also? Thanks.

Are you talking about opening the holes and not clipping them? Maybe extend hyfax wear? Maybe get rid of some of the dreaded 35mph rumble? Hmmm---do you have pictures? Do you think it will compromise the life of the track?

Easy job:

(1) Go get double-double.
(2) Buy two chisels at local hardware store (1.5" and 1")
(3) Open up the track and put a workbench or woodhorse "in" it.
(4) Using a piece of 2x4 on its edge directly underneath where you want to punch, use a hammer and the chisels to cut out the holes.

I did not clip the track after punching out the windows and I run Kinetic extros. I have not had any problems. Many mtn. sleds comes that way from the factory now.

I did it to my 05 a couple of years ago and to my daughters 03RX1 this fall. Both times with a roto zip using the standard drywall bit. I took about 45 minutes.

No clips added, no signs of wear to the track and I believe the hyfax life was improved as well as track noise reduced.

Steve 05 RX-1 What kind of blade did he use on the Roto-zip?

Im not shure which bit he used but he did add clips.I noticed on mine going from the stock closed window track to a fully clipped track it does roll easier most noticably at slow speeds comming up to a corner.

If I am not mistaken , haven't some mtn. riders been drilling large holes in their tracks to lighten them? This is very interesting if it gets rid of track noise. I wouldn't be running extroverts so guess that it would be no worse than drilling holes for studs???

i just used the chisels last night, worked great & clean cuts, better then most of the factory cuts.

An exacto knife may do the trick as well... no need to remove the track , just pull the rear flap up out of the way and roll the track cutting as you go...

;)!

I thought the same thing, couldn't even tell which holes I cut vs. factory without really looking at the track and clip placement.

A Stanley knife works great as well. Very sharp and though blade on. Guys laying down vinyl flooring use them for cutting the vinyl. It cuts rubber like butter, I used this knife and some oil to lube the blade, cutting the track was a piece of cake. I have my tracks fully clipped running WhalBros extros on both my sleds.
