I replied to a post on TY last week that I have a lot of miles on my RTX shocks and I should pull them for servicing. I guess I waited to long because I blew out the center shock and ruined a $700, 128" Ice Attack track (costly mistake). I started looking for a used replacement shock to send out for service/revalving and several TY members gave me some reasonable prices. I also got a phone call from Chris Schmidt of Schmidt Brothers Motorsports after a TY member made him aware of my misfortune. He gave me a few options for new shocks that don't tend to have the same issues and also said he would try to find a used shock to rebuild for me. I was very impressed that Chris took the time to reach out to me. Now that I have a few option I'm unsure which way to go. I liked what I had with the revalved RTX shock and Hygear dual rate springs but I don't want to worry about having another blow out. Chris suggested either a standard FX Nytro shock or a Fox Zero Pro shock revalved to fit my needs. He says both are more reliable but my concern is that I lose the compression/rebound settings and I don't know if there is a dual rate spring for the Fox Zero. I guess if Chris hits the setup I won't need the additional adjustments. I've been reading that the cure for the stock RTX shock is to install a high flow hose to reduce the pressure that builds in the shock body but I'm not totally convinced that's the cure. I also believe Hygear can install a thicker walled shock body.
Should I give the stock RTX shock another chance or look for something that may be more reliable? I'm leaning toward the Fox Zero Pro.

I put on a Air shock from Team Fast. Ulmer used to sell them so you can check with him if not contact them directly. I have ran it for the last 3 seasons and love it. The air bag is just about indestructable. Cost is $370 from Team Fast.
I might have a lead on a Ohlins Center shock too. Will PM you the info.

I have an almost new zero pro shock I took off my Nytro and replaced with the stock RTX shock that has been reworked by Hygear with dual rate springs, hyflow hose and revalved. So far it's an asom setup. If you are interested in this zero pro shock it's for sale. I like the ajustability of the oem shock.

I decided to go with a Ohlins center shock and as long as I was doing another track replacement I'm going to extend the 128" relocate to a 136". I ordered a Tracks USA extension kit with a 136" Ice Attack XT track. I hope I don't regret this.

Which Ohlins center shock did you buy? Part number?

Sorry for the late reply, but Elka also makes shocks for the center and rear of the nytro. Two options are available (Stage 1R and Stage 5).
I'm tempted to try stage 1R's on mine instead of rebuilds.

You will have to remove one wheel to install, You will also want to notch the rail so you can get to the adjusters

Thanks, I knew about the wheel but not the notch. Has anyone figured out anyway to relocate the wheel without it interfering with the torsion spring? I may have to fabricate something myself.

Crap!
Same thing happened to my center shock on my RTX, but I broke the hose off so the shock still had spring pressure, but no oil. Replaced with a used Ebay RTX shock.
Wish I would have researched more

Good to hear it was revalved. The YA 868 was, IME/IMO a little soft for the big stuff, and the YA 8681 ended up too stiff in the small stuff for many riders. I still have an RTX skid in the shop, w/ the "super special" PDS equipped 868 and 869 shocks I built. It still isn't as good as the Mono skid.

How would a dual rate spring work on the Ohlins? I'm hoping the Ohlins shock setup will be comparable to what I had with the RTX shock.
