I did the exact same thing...even used checker plate also but put the checker side up It works great, less than half of the snow-ice build up than before. You will be glad you did it.

I have a sheet of aluminum ordered and will be doing some sort of close off along the protectors but I have a tunnel heat exchanger to consider. I like the idea of a partial close off but would like to see some pictures of ice build up with this setup.
as soon as I can go riding I'll post results.

I'm pretty positive your going to have issues here. I tried a piece of Royalex where you did... it worked great, until I bottomed out. Luckily I was using royalex and not steel or ^. I'm pretty sure when I hit it would have ripped the track off. I do have studs... but I did a bump check when I got back and it's going to be close up front even with a stock sled.

Anyone have a picture of the plate and dimensions. Are there any bends or just a straight piece of aluminum and some rivets/screws?

Ray man hows it going to be a problem if it is above the protectors?
that's what I thought above the protectors no problem. It is just a sheet of aluminum. can't remember the size. I will go out in garage tonight and get some numbers.

I purchased a .05" thick 2' X 3' sheet of aluminum that I plan to install on a RTX with a tunnel heat exchanger. I was hoping to see a few pictures of how well the semi closed and fully closed help prevent icing before I do the install. I think doing a full enclosure mounted to the bottom of the protectors would work the best but may be to restricting. The tunnel exchanger has worked well and I don't want to interfere with its ability to dissipate heat so I'm leaning more toward the semi enclosure because it is less restricting. Has anyone done a close off with the tunnel exchanger?

If the purpose of this is to stop the ice buildup, would it be better to just remove the tunnel protectors? With nothing for the ice to stick to, it won't build up. Saves a bunch of weight too (instead of adding weight).
