Yes brass or oilite can crack or chip. OEM are made of torlon which is a very very good materialThe stock ones do not wear but crack when the gear pops out from the hard shock. brass don't chip or crack.

Yeah but even pads in good shape will not stop a gear from rocking and popping out of gear, I've seen it personally. Put a good bushing in there with zero slop, high load capability and your problems will go away. There is a guy making a $350 USD bushing that says has lasted 15000 miles.

I am just saying the brass will take much more shock from the gear pooping out out and not break apart like the fancy plastic shoes do. Thats the difference of being able to limp the sled back. Seen this happen 4 times. You learn as you go with theses things.
