Should I buy this 08 nytro?

Mountain guys..... The air is getting to thin up there!

Thanks Peter, I tend to forget about you mountain guys. The MTX did run the 8GL spindle in 2009 and the base model MTX was the only version in 2010. The Base 121" Nytro and the RTX did not run them past 2008 and the XTX only ran the new 8HK spindle. I hope I got that right!

(If your not happy with the Nytro's a-arm geometry you could always give Mountaintech a-arms a try......regardless of what spindle the sled has.)

You are spot on!

8GL- and 8HK- are the differences in part numbers for the Nytro spindles. The 8GL- spindle was the original spindle design for the FX Nytro when it cam out in 2008 people complained about the twitchy handling of the Nytro so in 2009 most Nytro's were fitted with a new 8HK- spindle along with new upper and lower a-arms to change the front geometry. The twitchyness was corrected by adding caster and trail which both tend to make the skis want to always return to center. The problem with this is that it adds steering effort on a already flawed chassis. More negative camber was also added in 09 with the a-arm change which was beneficial but many 08 owners were making that change themselves by modifying their upper balljoint.

The two spindles compared

tie rod spindle mount was relocated to help with bump steer.

2008 vs new 2009 a-arm for a RTX. The new arm was shorter (adding more neg camber) and had bigger bushings matching the lowers

10,000 miles is nothing and at this price.....I would buy it!!! That race front end is the cat's meow!

Love my Nytro ! It's a 2008 with the Evolution Powersports flash that gives it more power and fixes the handwarmer issue. Stock except minor clutching C&A skis and the flash....it flat out flies!!! Not afraid to run 400 miles plus in a day.

I know the owner AND the guy that maintained the sleds. He built my 08 Nytro as well. Buy it, you'll not be disappointed. The upgraded front end makes the Nytro the sled it SHOULD have been when Yamaha introduced it. The maintainance done to the sled is impeccable . Only guy that was employed by Yamaha I'd allow to work on MY sleds!

Going thru old threads re- 08 vs 09 front ends and noticed in the center picture the 08 spindle shown on the left ( mounted on sled ) appears to be mounted on the opposite side of the sled?? (Left spindle on right side of sled) am I seeing this wrong or was this a trick to make the 08 spindle tie rod mounting point more similar to the newer spindle??

Sold my 09 RTX with 12600 mi for $2900.
Ya it needed a few minor things but I wouldnt be afraid to take that sled anywhere!!

Sorry, didnt realize how old this thread was!!!
