I don't know if this was posted about how much boost the Sidewinder has,I thought I would share with everybody what I was told Sunday at the 2017 show at Yamaha Factory in Wisconsin 4/10/16. There is no Boost gauge. The Sidewinder puts out 13 pounds of Boost. Will maintain boost at most elevation up to 13 pounds of boost. Just FYI. Had a great time at the show with all the TY members. Mr. Sled did a great job. Thanks.

Are you sure it maintains 13lb at all times or up to 13 to maintain power at higher elevation?

I read somewhere the ecu reads the amount of octane your using than adjust boost on its own. That's what I translated. So higher octane higher boost? Please correct me if I am wrong

Wow, sounds fun and dangerous, how do I get that job???

I did some checking because this wasn't adding up. It does not monitor octane, It monitors knock and lowers boost and pulls timing to safe guard! If you put lower octane in and knock occurs it will make the adjustments and you will loose power.

Boost range is from 9 to 13lb. It will increase boost UP TO 13lb as you increase elevation to maintain power. It was said that the sled at Dynotech was around 9lb.

30 psi is way to high for that turbo. It's made to deliver at its best up to max 20 psi. Over that its ineffective.

13 psi boost , and only 180 hp.
Yamaha have made a very safe setup. Its only +70 hp from the engine without boost. Normally its no problem making 10hp pr psi. =+130 hp

. So octane triggers the knocking so we really want to run 91 octane so we don't loose, power. Now we need to trick the ecu into thinking we are at high elevation for us flat landers. Probably a flash out there already waiting for us!

That motor should generate more than 70hp without turbo. Need to look at the rated hp of the YXZ side by side...

Interesting. Do you know that the guage has a calibration mode for altitude? At least on Vipers. At the show last weekend a few Winders we looked at were showing 9000 ft. Would have to check wiring since there is more than one map/baro/boost sensor.

I believe they are 120hp. Sidewinder is lower compression and different cams though. Probably 100-110hp. Who said 70 without turbo?

Knock light is first mod I would do to Sidewinder. Wish I would have played with guage more. Phazer has the knock light right in guage. Very possible it's in sidewinder also.
