I know there must be threads on this, but after 20 minutes of searching I couldnt find the right info. I know there was discussion about replacing the Sidewinder clutch with an Apex or Viper or something. It had to be machined and there was a company who sold new ones all ready to put on your sled. My Winder has about 10k miles and although I have maintained it, I wonder if it is starting to get worn. Any info or suggestions would be great.

Jut search "Primary" or "Secondary" in "This Forum", There's endless threads on these topics. Viper, Apex, TAPP, STM and many more options for replacement available

Still cant find what I am looking for. There was a vendor who sourced the new clutch and machined it to fit the Winder all done just need to add weight

Thunder products is the only place that i remember selling apex type clutchs, i bought one from them a few years back refurbished not new, no machine wrk required to install one on a winder or cat.

Barn of parts could probably sell you a used one.

Sorry guys this was a year or two ago and I could swear I contacted them and they could source the clutch new, but some changes had to be done to it. I will keep searching

There’s no changes that need to be done to a Apex or Vector clutch, it will go right on no problems.

What about a PB80 , I was thinking about trying one, no weights or rollers to worry about

I have used an Apex clutch on my SW since I purchased the sled new in 2019...no machining required just needs to be calibrated.
1000s and 1000s of tuned trouble free miles.
That's right Bob, they all fit and doesn't need to be machined to fit unless you're looking for overdrive which again id unnecessary if you have the correct gearing. Lots of stuff out there off the shelve and used on eBay that will work. Also have to know what your doing when doing a wholesale clutching change which isn't for everybody and definitely not for a novice.

If you find an apex clutch you just have to have the pins and washers with it. Winder spider has wider pockets so the washers and pins don't fit apex clutch.

I just parted out an 09 apex with 135 miles if you want a basically new primary clutch.

Thank you Hibshman I already have a long list of stuff I want from BOP will be ordering next week. There is nothing wrong with my clutch it doesnt eat rollers it no longer blows belts once I set the deflection etc. I was just concerned after 9 years and maybe 14k miles that I should replace it. I have always maintained it and it works well for my tuned sled. I am just considering they no longer make Sidewinders and I may be getting to the point of replacing the sled. Damn i hate to think Skidoo but I do like the 4 stroke turbo reliability and power. So this year before I ride...
1. Maintain clutch
2. Rebuild shocks
3. New Upper Gear Fork pads and tensioner bushing
4. Change oil

She has been a super sled with the appropriate add ons. Many from BOP.
