So, my dad bought a new LTX DX, the issue is when the track spins we are hearing a poping/grinding . The dealer has already taken the sled back once and just told us it's because there is no snow to lube the track. We did some investigating last night and found the issue as we believe. The track driver on clutch side is not lined up, the driver is catching edge of the track and lifting it up then snapping back down as it spins around. So far the impression of the dealer is they are reluctant to do anything and are not very knowledgeable about these sleds.
The track is properly aligned and set a little tight as the sled has only 0.3 miles on it. Is this something we should try bringing up to yamaha since the dealing with the dealer so far has not been receptive to our concerns.

It almost looks as if the drive axle needs to come fwd on the right side. Not getting the penatration the left side has. Check all the cross shaft to make sure they are lined up on both sides. Is the rear trihub setting equal? May have to show your dealer thes pictures.

Up to you to present problem. Pics help. Up to Yamaha to fix. Not you!
If you feel your dealer is not up to it. Which it happens. I'd give Yamaha a call. So they understand one of their dealerships are not providing the service you desire.

Three things about this chassis. The track and suspension will never be aligned properly and this sled will always be noiser than others in track noise from not being aligned and everything hitting and clicking lastly without extensive reworking the track will never roll as easily as other sleds. At any given time all these sleds will look exactly like those pictures. Its very disconcerting and you can really feel it when you first switch from another design but you get used to it and just ride. It doesnt hurt a thing. Soon we will have posts of the track having fraying all over windows and edges. Thats also "Normal" with this chassis. It bugged the heck out of me and I know it costs hp and speed but I am not about to go through a redesign of skid to fix it. almost 9000mi on original track and bearings with all these issues and more. Run it!

Is this for real! 15K plus sled and things are not aligned! I haven't even ridden mine yet but thinking I should of just stayed on my Apex, fit and finish are second to none. This stinks, stronger words on my mind.

Really.....this is normal??? Skid alignment is not exactly rocket science. If that is the case this skid is going to drive me crazy!! I am used to the quality and precision of Yamaha.

All this applies to the coupled skids only. It's not that things aren't aligned. The issue is everything including the entire rear suspension is made to move around in chassis and the fits of the moving parts on skid are loose fits. This was done to prevent sticktion and improve suspension action. Till you ride it don't even compare it to any Yamaha skid. It's much, much better. All my bearings, bushings and wheels lasted over 8000 mi. Track same. Slides last 3000mi. Suspension is way better in every way than any Yamaha skid ever built. Yes it's noisy. Yes you can't align track decent. Yes track gets frayed from rubbing. Yes there is some weak parts that should be replaced on skid. Who cares? It works better than anything I have ever owned.

Have seen quite a few sleds with the drivers not centered, or even the entire skid not centered. Yes, the design allows it to move around but I'm guessing loose tolerances in skid mounting locations contribute. It does not give the impression of a quality product, but can't ague that besides the noises and vibrations it does work well, but personally I don't like all the vibrations and noises. I assume this all helps explain why track alignment is virtually impossible.

Yes. I saw drivers not centered also in 2012. None since. Those stupid quiet bumps in track don't help either they make it all worse. Don't forget this skid is actually only mounted at two points in rear and those are on a Pivot. If I was a drag racer the skid would get ditched but that's not what this sled was designed for. It works awesome give it a chance.
