Hello Gents...
I can say as a connoissuer of different sleds with power...this sled is a huge hit to me...
apex's and nytro's all had sweet motors...but the chassis on my 2012 cat turbo with gobs of power set the bar...of course we all know they have their issues...so I jumped over on a 800 etec for a while ...fun for the trail and light...but not enough snot for me...so this year back on a cat turbo...complete with programming and exhaust...and refinements in the chassis (qs3 shocks rock)...and 137 length...its barely broken in and Ive hit 124 with room on the dream meter (boosted) and the ride and handling is terrific...the sled completely hides its weight...and the pull is unreal...but its still a cat..
so when I saw this...well at first I thought...here's another viper with a slapped on turbo...boy was I wrong....studying what i can...I see revised clutches (already the best in the biz IMHO) and behind them something special Im hoping my eyes are deceiving me...looks like a die cast bulkhead? (I think a hugely important piece for the support and rigidity of the motor and clutches)...other positives are turbo on the opposite side of the clutches for better heat managment (less effect on belts and longer life) and a cast exhaust manifold...again not right next to the clutching...
supposedly 40 lbs lighter and more centralized mass means this sled should handle even better...will it be as easy as the cat 1100 to boost...maybe not but I dont care...I see yamaha influence and engineering....and I like it...hopefully they are diligent with the jackshaft/chaincase/gears and chain...
only potential weak links were the gearbox (please yamaha 15w hyvo billet gears) and the tri hub real...a rear wheel kit solves that...and I dont care for the gauges....but, on the positive...I love the lighting upgrade and the ease of on and off hood and panels.. YESSSSS!!!!!!
I know tuners will have flashes for this sled and even possibly a hijacker...and of course exhausts etc. and this sled will be a trail to lake weapon...
Good job Yamaha and please sweat the details..

15w Hvyo OEM from what I'm told.

Excited of the new sled, also a little disappointed. 1- finally yammy builds a turbo sled from factory.
2 - 180 hp + and no typical turbo lag as they claim, should be one hell of a stallion.
Disappointment:
1- Arctic cat gets the state of the art engine and what does Yamaha get in return this time, they already had the chassis on the previous Viper deal.
2. Sidewinder is the best sled name available, what the hell. Maybe there s something I Don t know behind the story but Arctic cat did it right with ZR Thundercat.
3. Everyone wants one but who can afford it. We taught Apex s we're expensive.
All and all pretty impressive delivery from Yamaha. Got to wonder what BRP and Polaris are thinking now, they sure have it good with boondocking and mountain sleds for power to weight ratio. Will be a tough one to top the new Yammy turbo in hyperpower sector.
You could always get some Crotalus cerastes decals made up instead...

Yes,that is what woody said he was seeing on the test sled at the dealer test runway they were on,and that was unstudded on snow,he also said he has a dealer friend in Canada who has been running one at 122 as well on snow, and if geared up one tooth thinks it will see 130,that is amazing for a stock sled period.I just read a dealer post...who rode it...he claims it did 122 mph on gps!!!!
That is unheard of for a stock snowmobile!!!....so you can stop with the Apex is gonna be faster crap.
I love my apex xtx...but no way will it touch that speed...I know some of you moded apex guys might give it a good run...but keep in mind the sidewinder is stock...a little modding and this thing might push 130.
I think the ski doo guys just pooped a little...lol...the "Mach Z" they were waiting for...just got released by Yamaha (and Cat)

Hi old friend, seems like Evolutionpowersports already feels they can reflash the ECU sense they have an add in my new snow tech mag, about the new yammie having 180 hp and there flash can take it to 205 hp everdently they posted this info before AM snow posted dynotechs hp numbers lol,and they say 220 on 93 octane with there flash and 205 on 91,and someone from dynotech posted to my thread about there hp on the yammie being made on 91 octane, only thing I asked was,it a cold pass,or warmed up motor at operating temp, and no answer back, either way,if this ECU stays the same for production and once we get a thousand miles on this motor,we all should see close to same hp,and speed is all relavent to conditions, proper rpm's octane and distance and hook up,now keith woods who I tried to get to take my xtx in on trade, told me today he was on the viper that was pulling 123 at airstrip, but it was overevving to around 9000 rpms, but that may of been a good thing, seeing from the dyno data,it still makes max power at 9000 and with that 21/41 and o.d. secondary yammie has on it,may of been the reason for such good speed,he also said the apex was only revving 9800 so he and us all know that was not in its best power to make mam speed, but none the less,my ape xtx all stock runs out of power at 111-112 gps and this new yammie runs out of gear at 123 so either way there is a 10 mph difference between the two,and this was on snow,so if it was on ice and geared up a tooth or more, you may see 130,according to a Canada dealer woody knows who has a prototype viper with all Yamaha stuff,he is seeing same 122-123 on gps to at there test strip,on snow. Not bad for stock.gearing on the trail models is 21/41...ecu will (sooner or later) be able to be flashed...

All dyno pulls will start with a baseline pull from a warm motor. Usually a couple pulls will be made with only a short cool down between pulls.

Hey SJ where did you see this turbo was going to be 40 lbs lighter than what? And what were they comparing it to? So what was the sleds weight that they think this is 40 lbs less, thats a big chunk of weight, sense these procross chassis are already light compared to old cat chassie,or our apex chassie.Hello Gents...

Is that how jim at dynotech does his ramp up pass, the dyno's I have been on years ago,all did a cold pass to see where it spiked to cold for a first pass, and once warmed up,started to collect data, and they made some very long runs at WO throttle, well past 12 seconds, and some endurance runs up to 1 min. and it was a water brake dyno. All dyno pulls will start with a baseline pull from a warm motor. Usually a couple pulls will be made with only a short cool down between pulls.
