Ski-donts 2>4

I don’t think we’ll see Yamaha make any 2-strokes anytime soon or more likely never again. I think they will continue to steal customers from the other manufactures based on the reliability and fit and finish of their machines despite what ski-doo might say about 4-strokes. :drink:

^Agreed, I'll also add that before long all sleds are going to be 4-strokes just because 2-strokes arent going to be able to keep up with the emission regs and still mainteain durability. The more you lean 'em out, the quicker they wear out...
When that time comes, Yamaha is going have a huge advantage just because of how much more r&d time they will have invested in their 4-strokes.

they could of used their hpdi system that they use on their outboards to make them compliant but i think alot of people are fed up with the reliability of 2st vs 4st.many people just by and ride and dont know nothing about snowmobiles maintenance so 4 strokes are gonna be much more appealing to them.my 2 cents :4STroke: :4STroke:

It doesn't make much sense to design a completely new 2-stroke around the HPDI system..then turn around in 5 years and have to develop a 4 stroke anyways. I'm glad they did what they did. I'd rather have the extra 5 years of development in the 4-stroke...otherwise Yamaha would be where Skidoo is today, trying to make old technology work instead of investing in the cutting edge...

I think it is funny that they have run that campaign for the last few years and then what did they do this year but come out with a four stroke sled - Ski Doo is just like a bad politician - it ain't no good unless THEY are doing it!

yea they are pretty much saying that their fourstroke sled is bad now...lol

I agree and I think thats the same thing Yamaha was thinking. Why invest money in clean-burning 2-strokes when in 5-10 years the EPA regs are going to kill them anyways?
I do think it would be interesting for Yamaha to build a closed course competition-only 2-stroke snocross sled just to show everyone that they can build a high-output lightweight 2-stroker. I know it will probably never happen, but it would be cool.
