Ski-donts 2>4

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother posting anymore.

I'll agree with you!! On both of your above statements....

I thought is was common knowledge that the SDI sleds were VERY good on fuel. The BRP adds are BS and slightly misleading but that doesn't change the fact that the SDI sleds (the Rev6 in particular) use surprisingly little fuel. Hell...I've seen an SRX match an RX on more then one occation so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

I'm a true Yamaha fanatic but I think we all need to realize/admit that there is more then one option out there. We're starting to look more and more like Dootalk everyday....................

I am sorry to offend anyone, I was rude. I agree that the SDI Ski-Doo's deliver excellent fuel economy, but my friend has never seen 21 mpg.

Good on fuel? Yes. 21 mpg? lets get real. Not even the Vector gets that. Don't try to bs people, many of us ride with Doo's. Even Doo's site rates them at 18 mpg and you know if they could stretch it to 20 mpg on paper to make it look good they would.

They make a good product, and if I wasn't on a Yammi I'd be on a Doo. But they are also the most overated make out there as well.

I don't think this thread is remotely close to some of the smack that they talk over on Doo Talk about Yamaha's - I just think that the "Ski Doo is King, and Everything Else Is Junk" attitude that Ski Doo and alot of their riders exhibit gets real old after awhile - especially in light of the fact that for a manufacturer that has been building 2 strokes for 40 plus years seems (from what I've witnessed) to have the highest engine failure rate in the business - as I said earlier, I think they have use alot of marketing stratagies to promote a less than perfect product with more emphasis on making a profit than taking care of their customers - I'll take bogie wheel and handwarmer issues over engine, electrical, and fuel delivery problems every day of the week!! - I think Polaris and Cat have exhibited this same arrogance in the past when they were on top - maybe that is why Yamaha continues to put out more reliable quality oriented sleds - they have not had the luxury of being #1!

I like my performance and ride before fuel milage. I used to think the same, and sometimes even compare with others at fuel stops. But for a difference of 2-4 mpg's, it isn't worth it. A very good friend asked me, "What was more important, enjoying the sport of snowmobiling, or arguing about mpg's?"

Now, to those that care more about mpg's....... Talked to my buddies who each own a new sdi, and they said 16-18mpg. They do a lot of trail riding, and this was all types of trail, but said boondocking they didn't know. just their .02

I sold my 05 800 powertek to a friend of mine when I got my attak. In the same conditions/speeds he is getting about 1/2 an mpg better than me. 16 vs 16.5 mpg.

He let me ride my old rev, and after a couple miles I was looking to get back on my attak. It just rode MUCH better in THOSE conditons which were 6-10 in bumps.

I must admit I miss the weight of the REV. I just can't throw my attak around like the REV.

For the riding I do my attak is a better choice for me right now.

Just my humble opinion and observation.

Matt
;)!

It's all marketing everybody does it. Every magazine I have has Yamaha talking about 2-stroke smoke and such. I'm pretty sure that any hard core sledder is going to do his own research and make his decision without listening to what some add writer came up with to try to win your purchase.

Anyone notice that some chocolate bars have "energy bar" on them now instead of "candy bar?" :drink:

To be honest, as much as I love 4-strokes and what Yamaha has done to their lineup, I kinda wish they would have kept at least 1 2-stroke in their lineup.
Not everyone wants a 4-stroke and Yamaha is missing out on some potential customers by going all 4-stroke.
Its just like with dirtbikes, some people love their 2-strokes and wouldnt ride a thumper if you paid them them.

....I kinda wish they would have kept at least 1 2-stroke in their lineup......

I'm with ya on that one - I would have loved to see them build an 800 SRX (if only one year) - you know it would have been the King of The Lake - who knows, maybe they will resurrect
it down the road somewhere!

In a couple of years they won't have a 2 stroke in anything - ATV, Motorcyle, PWC, Outboards, or sleds - they are almost there now - I guess if they continue to improve on them, what the hey!?!?
