Ski mounted Ice Scratachers...do you think they will work?? I was worried they would affect the steering but they are close to the pivot and these sleds have EPS...

I'm sure they'll work fine, in all but bare ice. Won't affect steering either.

They look great Tom
I take it you fabbed the brackets/plates then attached the scratchers to them or did you purchase them like that?

Yes I made the plates and added the rail type scratchers. I think they turned out really well.

I think so too, just might have to look into doing something similar with mine?
Those are Curve ski's, correct?

Why not just mount them on the rails? Do all cable type scratchers allow you to use reverse with them down? I am putting a backcountry track this summer so I will be looking into getting scratchers. Also what brand are those scratchers?

Not sure the length of Tom's sled but the rail scratchers aren't as effective on a 121 as they are on a 136 or longer skid.
Seen some vids of the ski mounted ones and they do kick up decent amounts of spray, and with them being mounted there, they tend to hit the H/X's better and still get good amounts in the skid for the hyfax.

I am hoping it will work better on shorter skid like 121 to 136... get the spray into the rails sooner then the skid mounted version. These are Dura Flex Scratchers , Port Yamaha ordered them for me.

I might look into doing this as well even though I have an xtx. I didnt realize the shorter skids didnt work as good with skid mounted scratchers.

I'm going to be a bit of a naysayer. Since you asked for opinions I'm assuming that is OK.
First ,the install is a great piece of work.
However I am thinking the scratchers parked position is gong to reduce the downward pressure substantially over time as the park position appears to be bending the wire up .
Therefore I don't think they will work well on Ice or substantially frozen hardpack which around here is when scratchers are most needed.
I use the rake style ones mounted on my ski bolts that work very well on ice and very hardpack. [14,000 km on original Hyfax on my 06 Apex GT and 7,500 km on my 2011 Apex SE original hyfax so far.]
They don't back up well so I put a piece of red tape on the reverse handle to remind me not to back up.

The cable is pretty stiff but they are mounted and stored the same way on the rails. I think over time you may be correct and I also agree that they probably wont work as well as the wire type.

Riceburner,
I know what you are saying re the downward pressure being reduced as I noticed that happening with mine mounted on the rails. I have 2 different types the Yamaha ones and Slidekicks I believe - most guys I spoke with prefer the stiff spring loaded types mounted on the rails..
