Sled is dying

So, we went on our first ride for the season yesterday, even after the phazer is warmed up and we've been riding it for hours you have to crank it for a while before starting, and it died a few times while idling, you have to give it gas for 30 seconds or so when starting to keep it running, then it runs ok. This has always been typical when it's cold, but now it's doing it when it's warm.

It's hard to say what the starter RPM is because of the lag on the tach, it keeps bouncing around, I think it topped around 600 or so. It's getting fuel, you can smell it strongly in the exhaust. Doesn't seem to be any spark, there's no firing at all until it comes to life all at once.

It's an 08 Phazer Mountain Lite, so I don't think it's the starter recall, that was only the 07.

What should I check? Idle RPM? Plugs?

Seems odd that it's injecting fuel but probably not firing.

That is odd.It tells you that the pickup coil must be working for the injectors to fire.Idle RPM is first thing to check for sure.Another possibility I was told and after seeing a head apart I believe it.The Intake valves rust during storage. They are plain steel.Exhaust is Stainless. So after a bit of breakin the valves seal once again.Takes about a tank of gas. From now on I am fogging my motor before storage.

Do you think the plugs foul faster if you idle the sled a lot? My GF does a lot of idling waiting for us to pop out of the trees.

I have a new set of plugs anyway, although i'm not excited to change them, they're on the gas tank side right?

Although, if old gas might be the problem, maybe I should run another tank through first just to test.

BTW, sled only has 500 miles or so on it, it's practically new, it's always been warmed up, never shut down cold.

When u say never shut down w out being warm, on these phazers u should never shut it down until the idle drops.... even after the light goes off, u need to wait till the idle drops down before shutting off... i fouled a plug on ours like that last year....

Change the plugs first and new gas see if that helps. You said it only has 500 miles on it, has the 500 mile service been done. When it quits is it idling low ie 1200-1500? Part of the 500 mile service is adjusting/synchronizing the injectors/throttle bodies. Make sure you put some isopropyl alcohol in the gas too, these things really don't like water in the gas.

well I don't sit out there listening to it carefully, there's usually an Apex sitting next to it drowning it out.

I take it off the trailer and let it sit for 5 minutes or so, temp light usually goes out in a minute or two.

I will run one more tank through it, if it's still doing it then i'll go from there

yukon, no I haven't done the official service, i've done everything except the idle and throttle sync.

I've never synced throttle bodies before, looks like something new to learn...
