SLP hyfax anti wear pads

I drilled 1 1/8" holes in my third windows and what a difference it made in rolling resistance and no added wieght. Put 400 miles on it and no issues so far. It never rolled as easy as it does now, when slowing down befor I drilled the holes in the track. :exc:

What kind of drill does one use to drill through the rubber track?

Thanks for the link Bob. After looking at the websight & pictures, am I correct in my assumption that their "aniti wear pads" are just a simple carriage bolt with a locknut?
NO they are not a simple bolt ...they are made specifically for your track ..wider and flatter than a carriage bolt and stainless steel...I wouldn't use carriage bolts they aren't much cheaper anyways and not made for this application.

Thanks for the info. ;)! I had a feeling that they were special bots, but they do look like a carriage bolt in the picture. Also, I see the 1/4" track cutter, but what's used to cut the 1 1/4" holes?

Mark O - I used a 1 1/8" hole saw to cut the holes. Use a Butane Torch to melt the cords after you cut the hole. :bling :bling

You better not be cutting a 1 1/8" HOLE in your track! :o|
All that is needed is a 1/4" HOLE which is accomplished with the 1/4" Track Drill, which is not really a drill but a HOLE PUNCH.
The 1/4" HOLE is all that is needed for the shank of the bolt! 8)

In looking at these how do you hold the bolt to get the nut tight. It doesn't appear there is a allen head like studs have.

Grab the head with vise grips. It doesn't take much because the base of the stud that fits in the track is square and bites into the track.

Mark,

I believe the SLP bolts are actually a little flatter on top than a standard carriage bolt. I bet 1/4" carriage bolts would work fine. The SPL bolts come with nylock nuts but a std 1/4-20 nut with Loctitie would probably work fine as well. I ordered a set of SLP anti-wear pads, should have them in a few more days. I'll post with more info after I get them.

I looked at SLP's bolts, they look like a carrage bolt but are larger diamater heads and they are flat. I think they would work better than simple carrage bolts.

I never thought about drilling out the windows but it makes sense to open the track up. Guys around here are drilling as many as 5 and 6 holes accross the tracks with no problems, it's almost become the norm.

Stupid question...where EXACTLY do you drill the hole in the track to install the wear pads??? I am running a 151/2", extrovert drivers with every third window punched out and clipped every third. Does the hole get drilled through the rubber where there is no clip??? Confused....

That is exactly where you put them! :D ;)!

On my 151" track I would put the wear bolts in the closed windows positioned to line up with the hyfax.

Do we concure on this?

The SLP's are carriage bolts just stamped to flatting them a bit. If you go to Ace hardware you can pick up elevator bolts which are about the same thing only completely flat on top.
