Snow in the footwells

I bought a Nytro 153 this past season and really love it. I of course need to do a couple of mods to it to make it better but so does everybody. I noticed that I got alot of snow build up in the footwells. Then having to chip the ice and slush out is a pain. I noticed that the snow would sit on top of the bar that goes over your foot. Then when you take your foot out of the footwell it falls down in and starts the problem. I was looking at a M8 and saw that there was a plastic piece that came from the body panel out to the top of the bar above the footwell. Thus keeping the snow from falling inside. Has anybody done a mod or is there something out there that would help this. Yes I know Better Boards but, really looking for a better fix.
Thanks in advance.

do a search for 'wet left foot' you will find a ton of different threads on this subject

Same problem. I bought an '09 MTX 153 and if you are in powder, it simply builds up from snow coming in from everywhere. The bar might contribute, but heat from the clutch and kicked up snow melting on running boards with board holes too small to evacuate snow/slush is the real problem.

To make matters worse, the rather wide yami running boards in '08/09 had a six degree angle (vs. 10 - 12 on newer mtn sleds) which made them unpredictable when slaloming in deep powder.

My plan is to butcher my tunnel to use '10 skinz airframes or build a totally new running board from scratch.

If you want to fix just the snow/slush build up. Better boards or WRP is the easiest and best way to go.

Good luck

Remove the metal tube that locks your foot in, and trim the low panel plastic even with the running board support(that bolts to the bulkhead). These two changes greatly reduced ice build.

x2 on the Air frames!

I saw a Nytro with air frames and he had ZERO ice on the running boards, while i had tons of it.

No doubt I'm getting a set of those.

What they need to do is run the coolant through the running boards. Do you guys notice how the apexs stay nice and free of that snow build up.

and they all also crack , so its a trade off i guessI would love airframes.

Snow build up on the running boards and in the foot wells is a real problem on the Nytros. Pic below was taken the day after and shows a solid block of ice in the right hand side. Betterboards and similar products are a step in the right direction but they have their weak points as well. I am working on something right now that will be available by the end of the summer.

better then the skins?

You need a pair of Snow-Eliminator boards like my son had on his mountian. No more snow on the boards at all, very sturdy and no issues. Just Google snow eliminator

I disagree. Look at these. The tip ups trap snow and snow likes to stick to bare aluminum. They crack over time too. May be fine for back east but not in the mountains. The severity of the problem changes with the snow conditions. The more snow, and the wetter it is, the more problems.

When I first loooked at the pictures I couldn't believe they had the same openings, but I remembered the 08/09 Nytro has really wide boards, so maybe they keep cleaner because the are wider than the AC.

I have WRP boards on mine and they are a vast improvment over stock. You have Cascade Concrete, we have Appellation Aggregate, a similar wet, heavy annoying spring snow, that makes running boards down right dangerous after a while. I see WRP put a small radius on each corner of the tip up traction bars to stop the cracking. It's too early for me to tell, but it should work.

I like the Skinz airframes, but I have a problem with drilling holes in the tubing for traction studs. With my luck, a stud would fall out, the tubing fill with water, freeze, split and time for a new pair.

So Roest, if you guys have a new design.....bring it on. I am sure there is lots of room for a new product in this space

Mike, You're right. The 08/09 running boards stay wide longer. It makes the problem even worse. I have been working on something for quite awhile. The Skinz Airframes look cool but you bring up a good point about the holes. Your concern about them filling up and splitting is valid. There are other things about the Skinz I don't like either.......price being one of them. What I'm working on will be for the 08/09 MTXs for starters and then branch out to other models. Coming out with a shorty skid plate as well for those who don't want the full length one I currently offer. Some turbo stuff is in the works as well.
