I don't wanna put my viking away for the summer. I use it to commute to work, 1 mile each way on a paved road, in a small village in NW Alaska.
We're running out of snow now, and I came across this kit:
http://www.skiwheelz.com/

My question is:
Do you think this will work for my 1 mile commute? It's a bit pricey at 300 bucks, so I'm guessing it's a quality product. I'm concerned that the plastic wheels won't be able to support the weight of me+viking (roughly 1000 lbs).
I don't think overheating will be a problem...I'll be going 20mph for 3 minutes.
Will the track get eaten up riding on pavement? I see ATV's with tracks on them, and they ride all summer with no problem.

I'd be a litttle concern of SLIDES heating up for sure without any SNOW lube on EXTENDED pavement runs...for WHEELS I think they'll take some abuse but won't last for ever, their not that bad to replace, just get CHEAP idlers as spares, their not really designed to run for miles on end...just use common sense and they usually last.

You should be fine with those as long as you don't have studs. If you are worried about slide wear, just rig up a lube system that injects water on the slides. Just don't spin your track. You will likely go faster than 20 mph unless there is a speed limit.

There is a kit that uses four pneumatic wheel's that i think are intended for extended use, Not sure of the name but i am sure some one in here knows of them. Extra wheel's in skid would be a must just like they use for grass drag's. kviper
