In fact I teared up again this afternoon but it was brake cleaner over spray while I was cleaning my clutches. I sincerely enjoy this thread because I know the MP is not for everyone and is not perfect and it is the best sled out there for me.

The machine really does grow on people and the owners are proud. The ride quality is the best in in my opinion. and my wife absolutely loves riding with me.
I remember not being sure the first day I owned it, then I went for a nice adventure and was so happy the entire time. Here's the video I made from that weekend.

Had the flu that weekend, still great times.

Mine is a year old today. 3447 kms, 1200 this season. Worth noting that reverse is almost 100 percent since I loosened the drive chain tension as per Mooseman's advice. Also I think the fan is on less since I diluted the coolant(from 70/30 to 55/45) and added Redline Water Wetter.
I admit to having had some trouble changing the belt on Blue in the beginning. I even considered buying the tool that can be installed and still might one day. But for now I just persevered, taking the belt on and off for the fun of it numerous times until I got the hang of it. I have an idea your friend could take the secondary off without a wrench ... he looks pretty solid.

Is there a thread that gives specifics on how to loosen the drive chain tension? I would love to have that be one of the annoying things eliminated as soon as I get my sled on Monday.

Not much to it. By the book we go finger tight and then loosen 1/4 turn. I went back 1/3. The venerable Moose said he stopped just short of finger tight and went back 1/4.
The main thing is to just go a little looser than spec in whatever manner makes sense to you and then you will be able to find it every time. Mine took very little and the problem went nearly completely away.

The venerable Moose said...
All hail the Moose!
The manual is very subjective to interpret. What is "finger tight"? The way I do it is I loosen it and then I start turning until I just feel a little resistance (very little) then I back off 1/4 turn.
So says thy Moose.

I would love to see a video of this technique.

Can't video a "feel". You have to feel it.

My wife has the 2014 Venture MP and it has always been finicky for properly shifting from forward to reverse. At the end of last season I checked and adjusted the tension back to the 1/4 turn loose and was having the same results for this year so far. After finding this thread, I made that tiny adjustment and tested the results in the trailer. I started and warmed up the sled for a few minutes. I put it in gear both forward and reverse at least a dozen times moving it a few feet. It went into the desired gear EVERY single time. I am looking forward to some real world riding conditions and see how it goes. Thank you everyone for the valuable information you contribute to this site.

I have had my machine for 4 days now.
I notice subtle differences between each machine that I've owned. This one seems to bottom out a little more than my previous models. The starter turns it about 5 times before the engine starts. I recall 3 to 4 in my other machines. The hand warmers on this one seem to be warmer and this machine is not as finicky getting into reverse.
So perhaps there are little difference in each and every MP. Some people complain about how theirs perform, while other people can't get enough of them.
I have enjoyed my first 3 rides so far this season. One thing I have going for me is that I know the torque and I know the tippiness. So it's been easy getting into a groove on the sled.
I am hoping to chronicle some of my adventures up here in the NWT this winter on my sled.
If you are interested, I can be found on youtube.
My first little video of the season went up today, titled, "Where's Allan Gofenko" I have 2 channels btw. But will start using this one more.
Allan Gofenko is a good friend of mine and he has the best snowmobile channel on youtube. Sadly he's taking a break from videos this year.
I would absolutely love to see some of your adventures on youtube.
We all live in different parts of the world and we all have different stories to tell. But there's no denying that we all have one thing in common.

Would you have a link to your channel?
I do have some helmet cam footage (from previous years) but it's just trail riding in the flatlands here.
Wouldn't it be sweet if we could get us all together? I've seen only two other VL/MP's around here.
