I was just curious of how many owners would be happy if the speedo was not accurate...and it showed 100MPH all the time on the Viper and you were only really doing 87 or 88... like older sleds.

Was just wondering as the Speedos become more accurate the sleds appear to be slower... look at the 06 to 10 Apex... 12 to 15 MPH off. The Current Apex and Nytros are 5-7 MPH off... the Viper is maybe 1 MPH off... I wondered how many people would be actually thinking the Viper is slow if the speedo was inaccurate.

Thoughts?

Good question
I bet the Speedos are inaccurate on purpose

I think your onto something......I think most would be perfectly happy to just see that big number!

Very true Tom. I personally never felt the apex quit pulling like the viper. Otherwise, agree completely. Most would not of known the difference without coming off the BIG pull.

I love my 06 speedo lol...it also helps that the sled is actually fast.

The viper has a small motor and a chassis that accels in the bumps and junk...the chassis even with the big cat turbo motor never seemed to be super fast. It's just not designed to be...the Nytro isn't either. Srx's were fast too but they broke your back...it's hard to have it both ways. I think the guys wishing for the apex motor in the viper chassis will also be disappointed when they get to the lake....but your back will love the ride lol.

When suspension becomes limiting factor is when my quest for more stops. Haven't been scared yet.

If suspension is limiting factor you need about 200 HP and 30 MPH over your SRX. And by the time your scared its to late.

No the SRX scared me pretty much everytime I rode it. Never said I would use all the power but sometimes I know I would.

Funny you ask that Tom. I will say this.

I ride with 5 Apex's and a couple nytros. For whatever reason, they always have me lead the group. This year I am on a 2015 ViperXTX.

I was running across a lake last weekend (about 6 miles) leading the group. Hard pack and about 10deg F - perfect conditions. My sled at that point had about 350 miles on the odometer so hard to say if break-in was complete or not.

I Have COTC as well as the MBR trail can. However I also run the SimmonsGen3 skis so they probably eat up any gain I get from the mods.

@ 9000 RPM sustained (it would just make it to 8900-9000 at the top) the speedo was reading 89. I held it there most of the way.

Here is the funny part - we stop on the other side and my buddy I ride with a lot on his Apex Attak said "I thought your new Viper wouldn't go 100? We were going over 100 the whole way across." Hmmmmmmmmm.

The other night on a railbed I saw 93 on the speedo with about 550mi. on the odo. My GPS showed 92 for about 22 seconds (4 samplings) on the track log. I still have about 3/8" for the belt to go up on the primary so if I nail that it looks like about 95 will be it on this setup.

you are probably onto something here.. but, hp is still hp, and these sleds lack it.

This was my bone stock viper with pretty low miles on it.. I don't care what the speedo said, from 60 on up, this 800 etec would go around me like I was tied down. And, no, the ETEC was not out of it's break in period yet either!

For me i have never owned a sled that changed so much in personality on top end due to conditions. Not just the speed itself but the feel of it. Even Phazer although slow on top still pulled in that last 10mph it had on top. Viper becomes boring in that last ten.

i know my viper speedo is as accurate as it can be. both my gps and speedo are the same all the way to my max 92mph in ok conditions. will see what i get this time on the lake this weekend. with that said i believe most vipers are limited due to gearing and stuff and not the horsepower many say. i have the same amount of pull no matter what speed im at 0-60, 80-90. just at 90mph it literally just stops.

honestly im happy with that, i wouldnt mind 100mph, but i knew leaving the apex...

I agree 100%, they are not consistent not only day to day different but sled to sled.
Different temperatures, different conditions, different performance.
My wife's sled is set up 8GL all three holes loaded/4.5 gram rivets and WPW spring, it runs 8900 to 9000, but it leaves about 20 mm of primary unused.
Mine is set up 8GL 4.5 rivet in the heel nothing in the centre 3.5 revet in the toe YPY spring and struggles to make 8900, but uses more primary.
I can swap secondaries sled to sled and no change, so thats out of the equation, so why?
I don't by the "it's lost in the suspension" story because my brother has a Crossfire 800 with an almost identical suspension, difference being 1 3/8 cobra versus 1.6 and it doesn't have any inconsistency issues.

And yes I know this has nothing to do with speedo accuracy.
