My friend picked up a SRX this fall. How does this sled handle with the stock tuner skis on it. He is not mechanically inclined so I will be helping him out with his sled.
My 17 was horrible and dangerous it pushed so bad. I took the Rockerdan Pilot approach and my sled handles great now.
Another question. Should I tell him my sled is tuned ( It was stock last year) or should I let him think his sled is slow.Lol
 

I put curves on mine with 8” slim Jim’s and it’s on rails !

tuners will work with snow trackers tho

ran pilots on my ‘17 and they worked awesome too!
 
I liked Pilots on my Apex, every Doo, and Winder. A good compromise of handling and light effort.

"If" I try a Tcat next year, Im thinking of the stock Cat skis along with SnowTrackers, as I believe the trackers work best on a longer/flatter keeled design ski, like the Cat stock ski.

Just hard to beat the 6.9 Pilot, But for cheaper alternative the pilot 5.7 "kit" from BRP can typically be had for 200$. Hard to beat that kind of cost. Then I love the ACE bars(8") with them, I'm running those same ACE bars on my new 850 this year. It's a rectangular/tall style bar that is better than a shaper in every way, including price.

I would have to say that with all the negative on here about the tunner ski that I almost changed them out before trying them on my srx. I think most change them before trying them also. So I decide to try them knowing I only ride trails and know they would not be good in any depth of snow as they are a trail ski! I bought quality price 6 inch runners on all four and have to say they are awsome! Handles and carves a corner with light steering. Each their own I guess.

There is a certain snow condition or situation when they push sooo bad you'll SHART yerself.
I think the snow packs in-between the very close keels & it's like 2 toboggans.
Now at nice Calm cruising trail speeds, this problem probably doesn't exist.

P.S: The "C" in OCD does not stand for Calm, so i run Semi-Agressive SnoTrackers

I hated the tuners. My sled pushed so badly I couldn’t keep up with my wife on her pro S in many conditions. I tried every suspension setup and a few more aggressive carbides before I went with Pilots. The only thing I didn’t try were snowtrackers. My sled handles great now.

On my Viper, I tried a bunch of carbide combos on the tuners and the only thing that was half decent were 6" on all four in my opinion. There was stull a push but it was more predictable. Steering was heavy though. I have a set of 6.9s ready to go on my Winder as I am not going down that road again.

In loose wet snow they push but on any decent trail there as good as it gets

SRX is a different animal when compared to the Winders. I certainly tried my tuners for many miles with many different ski and suspension settings to no avail. They were by far the most dangerous I have ever encountered on any new sled. I was almost coming to a standstill in most curves on the trail if there was any snow on those well groomed trails, and the darting was off the charts! I complained to my dealer about them and he recommended Snow Trackers. So I bought a pair and upon installation I found that they were not correct for those new at that time Tuner III’s.
Called the New England distributor who confirmed that the correct style would not be available for 3 more weeks.

Both my sled and I like a pretty fast pace without having to almost stop on the trail turns, so I had to move forward!

Brought them back and ordered some Curves with 6”SJ. They work good in all conditions but have a bit of push in the corners and the heavy steering found from my stock set up was much the same!

So yes try your Tuners first and maybe install some Sno Trackers whereas many are satisfied with them for groomed trail use.

I have to agree, the tuners were good on an Apex but not on a Winder or Viper. i use pilot 6.9 and they work very good all conditions. tried the tuners on Wife new Viper thinking she is not running as hard into corners as me well after pulling her out of the trees twice the first weekend on the sled i changed hers for pilot's before she got hurt or wrecked the sled.

I agree....I had tuners on my new winder and loved them. Nice hard packed trails, these skis sliced and diced the terrain like a hot ghinsu knife. Then it snowed 4 inches, the the next morning the first 3 curves I encountered produced 3 near death experiences. My life flashed before my eyes so many times that day it felt like I was watching re-runs!! Depending on conditions, they are either good or real bad!

I went back to the sj''s on my curves, at the end of the season after a not so good ride, with darting and single skags. Some was the snow was crappy in spots with lots of elevation and temperature and trail condition changes.
So I just came in after our 2 foot noreaster, after grooming a few miles of test trails ( not open yet) and I do notice the push again, but it's not bad. No darting, and generally OK steering effort, but the curve ski keel and slim Jims really protrude deep into the snow, so it's going to be harder to turn.
Sled still goes like hell!!!! But amazing how rusty I can get not riding for 9 months.
 
Just remember guys, which ski works for you is similar to a "which carbide thread".....These type of "setup" and "handling" questions are never gone be same for everyone. We all ride different areas and want different things. Heck I can want a diff setup myself from one day to next with a temperature change.

For guys who ride big wide open trails, vs guys who ride tight trails their needs are quite different.

I run cat skis and snow trackers and I must say they work awesome once set up. Buddies who took my sled out couldn’t believe the steering how well it worked. But I think tuners weren’t as bad as people say they are imo.
