I just rcvd my Star rear suspension kit and my skidoo center shock spring is on order per Star's instruction. My plan is to pull the skid soon and send my shocks to Hy-gear for a rebuild/revalve. Hy-gear is familiar with the Star kit and their settings. Any tips or thoughts on this? I've pulled many skids but not an xtx skid before. Are there bushings in the skid that I should replace also? I hope this kit works well.

When I pulled mine I was impressed with the way it was designed seals to keep grease in water out grease nipples everywhere the bushings where in perfect condition and the only down side was grease everything was greased!

XTX suspension is the best in the business. I would use Hygear's dual rate center shock thou. Be careful with the springs and all will go well.

I’m following this thread. I’m getting kinda bored with my xtx but being a 12 with only 3500 miles I know it has a ton of life left in it. Plus there just isn’t anything out there that excites me. I rode a new sidewinder but while it pulls hard Id be afraid to hold it wide open across a lake like gogebic. Sorry didn’t mean to go on a tangent there.
The only thing that has bothered me about my xtx is the rear skid and the bucking and pounding I take. How did you go about deciding on the star suspension and shock setup? What does something like this cost?

The XTX rides rough no doubt but you can beat the hell out of it and it does not complain. Its like it wants to be rode hard, down side is though it rides harsh when you want to cruise. Stutter bumps are the worst on the XTX they become kidney beaters! The Star softens the cruise ride deals with the stutters while still taking a beating when rode hard. It does uncouple the skid which if you don't suck up the limiter makes for some 70mph lift the skis off the snow at will fun! The kit cost around 500 Canadian and is worth it!

I've hated the ride on my 14 xtx since day one. My wife has a monoshock vector that rides awesome. I tour and ride with my wife a lot and when I set it soft enough so that the stutters are tolerable it'll bottom hard on a sucker bump at a higher speed. My days of blasting through the bumps at 80 are over. I just want a compliant ride that doesn't bottom out on a big bump. I tried Nytro springs with hy gear spacers and it was better but was not stiff enough for saddle bagging. I had a mono shock suspension offered to me and I considered that heavily but was going to require a lot of work modifying and I would have ended up with a bastardized sled that would be hard to sell or trade later. Many people on here liked the Star kit so I gave him a call. Cost on the kit was about $260 US. He specifically told me not to get hygear's dual rate center shock spring and to get the skidoo spring which was $60. I also called hy gear regarding rebuilding/valving the shocks and they are very familiar with Star's requirements. So this is the way I'm going.

I love the xtx's power steering. I rode my buddies winder and it steered hard. So for me it wasn't a buy. Power was nice but I struggle with artic cat quality too. I have heavier torsion springs on mine and when the center shock broke it rode like a dream. then I had rear shocks rebuilt and it rode like a lumber wagon again. I think the key is that center shock. I am on a winder now so I don't mess with it anymore but I was going to have that shock re-valved to see if that fixed it all by itself.

My rear skid and front shocks are heading to start suspension for a complete kit both front and rear. Anything and everything they have for the CK 144 is getting done in house, shock rebuild, heavy front spring for the rear skid and rebuilt and re valved front shocks. The entire package is gonna be about 950$ Canadian. Can’t wait for winter to try this out. I’ve had the sled 4 seasons now this will be the 5th and I’m liking forward to a more compliant ride and more rough trail capability.

I'm in the US so it was going to be a huge pain to send Star my shocks which is why I'm sending them to Hy Gear. I haven't given much thought to the front end shocks. What is wrong with them and how are they correcting the issue? Should I be taking a look at this?My rear skid and front shocks are heading to start suspension for a complete kit both front and rear.
