Stud Suggestions

Just got back from St Zenon and Lac St Jean (Mount Volin). Did 1000 miles in 4 days with mostly great conditions. Saw alot of ice in the turns when South of the St Laurent. I have not studded the 05 RX1 but want to now after some very close calls. I am not looking to drag race the sled on ice, I just want some better stopping capability and a little more traction when crossing lakes, roads, or up icey hills. Can someone suggest how many studs, what pattern is best for the ripsaw track, can I just do the center?

i just studded my 05 and put 96 in the centre "v" pattern 1.325 woodies gold diggers. works good. enough for safety but it still allows the track to work awesome.

I agree use a 96 pattern I'm running that many on my wifes sled and it makes a huge difference compaired to an unstudded ripsaw.

I'd run a 1.340 to a 1.350 length. I'm not a woddies fan but I'd run the mega bite due to the thicker head with that few studs

1.325 studs are plenty long for me. Only stud the center of the track do not put any on the outside belts.

I would put 94 or 144 your call.

I was looking at Fast-Trac studs, I had them on the Viper and they seem to hold up well with those light weight nylon backers. They recc 1.25" studs. Anyone have any experience with their new Triple X series?

96 up the middle only in a V pattern. I highly recommend Woody's Mega Bites, 1.325

I have been using the new Woody's stainless, 144 down the middle, 1320 is the size.

The stainless looks nice, is durable, and very resonably priced. I paid $165USD plus backers for 144.

Mega-bites or the new stainless Woodys in 1.325 placed down the center 144 count. IMHO do not use any plastic backers, they don't provide enough stud support use Woodys round aluminum

I run 130 studs downt the middle in a V pattern.. 1.325 or 1.370 studs

I ran 126 2-2-3 in a V up the middle. I like the Megabites because of the 4 sides for biting. I also don't recommend the plastic. I had them on a Mach Z and they flexed horribly. I personally like Square Woody's Aluminum.

Hey Rippin. I just installed 144 Mega bites on my 03 RX-1 with a Ripsaw. The stud pattern I used was pre-drilled by Camoplast when I purchased the track. I found this pattern hooked up very well and in a 1000' run on ice with radar I got 4-5 mph better than sleds that didn't have studs. This pattern did require the use of woodys dooleys in 48 places and I used 48 single backers as well. Again this patterns works well and I think the Mega-Bites are great. Good luck...

I just bought 1.125 Woody Stainless for an 04 RX1 shorty, are they going to be too short? I was concerned about going over the .250" rule.

Should I take them back and "upsize?"

I haven't started drilling yet. Don't put any on the outside edges? Is this for handling.

Rocks. I am far from a studding expert. I just know what I have heard from others. You should buy the studs to be a little longer than the track lug height. If your track is a 1.125 height you should get at least the 1.325 studs. That is what my Mega-Bites are. They installed very easy and so far are working well. I only studded in the middle and found no handling issues. I also have 6" dooleys on the ski's as well. I am told that you must have at least 6" of carbide on the front if you install studs. Good luck and remember be a good listener and don't rush to install... My 2 cents
