STUDDING QUESTION

MrSled said:
for the HP, I feels its plenty. I dont want to have to many studs in the Phazer to have more weight to hurt the power that it has along with top speed. I created the patteren from the 96 double backer pattern that woodys has for up the middle studding. Stud length, 1.08 Rotine Hornets.

your right

After studding I drove it in the grass and stood back and when the skid transfer weight the studs will catch the back 8 inches of the tunnel. After I added the protection all was good. Pictures show the studs and clearance in the tunnel. I will have to get a few more pics later of the PVC protection that I added.

Are you saying that when the suspension compressed the rear of the tunnel contacted the studs? Got any pictures of the scratch marks? I'd like to see your fix if so, thanks in advance.

So are you saying we need protectors? I added 72 studs as well, but didn't install any tunnel protectors yet. I didn't think they would rub.

Here are the pics of the protectors I added, note the scratches on the tail piece prior to the tunnel protection. I had these PVS protectors from a Viper so they are used, that why you see black marks on them.

Might have missed what exactly those improvised tunnel protectors? Part number/etc...

Thanks for the information...BTW mounting advice on those strips.

I think they are 8DN-21978-00-00 buth the SMA-8CV92-90-00 from the new Yamaha acc catalog will do the same job, In order to pop rivet these in I remove the tool box on the back, and remove the 2 rear bolts from the skid and raised the sled rear up until I could reach far enough to drill and pop rivet them in place. Make sure to rivet these at least 6" o.c. as they will bridge the rear exhaust hole. Also take care in what you are drilling thru.

hmmm. I didn't think there was so little room back there. Since the sudded 1" track hits, anyone know of the 2" track on the mountain sled would? How about a 1.5" track on the standard phazer?

Thanks for the tip Mr. Sled ordered the tunnel protectors today... ;)!

Finished up the 96 today, I used Woody's Signature Series 1" X 5/16"...perfect height off the track IMO.

There will be no tunnel protection from Yamaha this year to my knowledge, that why I have shown the protection I used and if you do stud its a must to have the protection.

mr. sled: do you have to drop the skid to put the tunnel protectors on? if so, is it hard to do?
