I have already done 2 sleds with 1.450 woodys it will be fine. Keep track tight and if it nicks the bent down louvers who cares wont hurt a dame thing!

you are correct (we feel so far)
he makes a template...you make your own pattern..he's merely showing the possibilities..
Gotcha Thanks. It's been a while since I studded the outside lugs. How far from the edges do I need to be on both sides?

To each their own..I personally don't wish to shred anything on my 15k machine..especially when there are other options...keep the backer within the rubber of the track..if possible 1/4" ...
A low shouldered stuff gets you better "capture" and less chance of deflection /tear outs..if you go outside..strength in numbers..so I recommend every outside window...remember the greatest traction is closest to the rail...

I liked your setup you did on your 137 so I figured I would try it on my 129. 4 per row with 2 on outside and 2 inside. There is 45 windows so I can do a 5 or 9 line pattern and try to stay out of the center 3 in.

I get that the most pressure on the stud is closest to the rail but spreading the out to maximize scratch lines will do more for you. If you are running studs through the same trench as the ones in front of them it doesn't matter what the force is on it. I've always studded the whole way across the center and they always seem to hole shot better the more lines you can do. My current set up is 24 lines. To each their own..I personally don't wish to shred anything on my 15k machine..especially when there are other options...keep the backer within the rubber of the track..if possible 1/4" ...

preaching to the choir..yours Looks good...but I always say stay out of the center 1-1.5" ...nothing good happens there! Also..not a fan of plastic backers..nobody wins races with those
I and the people I know get out front and usually stay out front when we race

Protectors are approximately 1.02" or 26mm and louvers in tunnel protrude approximately 0.315" or 8mm. I have W85 Warthog studs that extend Approximately 0.59" or 15mm past the lug. That leaves 0.118" or 3mm of tolerance which with a bit of lug deflection hopefully will be just barely enough hopefully. I wouldn't recommend running anything longer as there would be interference issues for sure!
thanks for sharing...would you estimate the vent to be 3" wide>? and a better picture of your pattern please

here's my take on the vent...from other reports the viper had a vent without the louvers....why did they add the louvers?
then it hit me....the header is some form of cast material and gets cherry red hot....they are trying to deflect the snow, slush and water away and back down to prevent thermal shock...the little change in the vent might seem insignificant ....but might be important...
I personally will be avoiding that area.

The vent louvers are 3.5 inches wide
So what's the options at this point. Just avoid the inner 3.5 (that's a lot of wasted space)? Pound them shut? Let the Studs tear them up? Also, where can I get the rear protectors. My dealer doesn't have any? Any Cat dealers with stock?

You may be on to something. Yamaha had issues with the header cracking on the prototypes.here's my take on the vent...from other reports the viper had a vent without the louvers....why did they add the louvers?

I got the last set my local cat dealer had in Stock they told me they were on Backorder. Yamaha is back ordered as well.So what's the options at this point. Anyone come up with a pattern for using 4 studs per row with using the outside and staying out of the middle 3.5

I'm recommending c b performance template..even staying out of the center 3.5" you'll have many scratch lines at 4 per row...I'll be laying it out Thursday...
