It is just for air flow any I don't think it will hurt anything if you take them out!

I am thinking of doing the same stud pattern as you on my 129. Going with 1.450 though hope that's not an overload for the center.

The prototypes were cracking the head pipes from snow being thrown onto it. Yamaha installed the louvers to help disperse the snow thrown up there.

As much as I want to stud this everywhere I have too much money invested into it and keep see bending the louvers over and just chewing them up with studs if I went to resell this 15k machine in a couple years and any potential buyer looked in there and seen those pounded bent and tore up from studs there more than likely going to walk the other way. Plus there is a reason they did it not just to mess up our studding abilities

here's my take on the vent...from other reports the viper had a vent without the louvers....why did they add the louvers?

then it hit me....the header is some form of cast material and gets cherry red hot....they are trying to deflect the snow, slush and water away and back down to prevent thermal shock...the little change in the vent might seem insignificant ....but might be important...

I personally will be avoiding that area.

its more than a shredded vent....if in fact its your header...its pull a motor time..and yamaha could say since you went with over recommended stud length your warranty is not covered!

Ok this is what I have come up with as far as a pattern staying out of the center 3.5. Thoughts? And will this work ok?
