I relied on the 3.5" from others...so I used up to #5....probably could have gone to #6 ...but didnt push it...figure I can always add more later if desired

The louvers are exactly 3.5" wide so in order to truly avoid them, you can only go up to #5. This gives you ~1/4" of slop which should account for track movement left/right while riding.
 

right on ...totally recommend the template from 2000srx....even after this machine its a keeper...
BTW they also carry the INS Stingers you see in my pics and more!
 
Lots of differences in the material the plastic backers are made of. I used the fast trac on my apex and with 18,000 lower Michigan "snirt" miles and they are all still in great shape and none broken. The studs are worn pretty good.... but the backers are still in great shape. I also think they allow the track to flex without digging into the rubber like the metal ones do and keeps the track from ripping and stud from pulling trough. My 2 cents:D


obviously they work well for you and your riding ...but actually the flex of the plastic causes the stud to deflect more (I.e. lay over) and therefore increases the chances of a pullout since the head can act as a cookie cutter on some studs....

if a guy is concerned about the backer cutting into the track...a larger aluminum backer like I use (stud boy power plate plus or accord round backers are what I recommend)

FasTrac are Polymer, nothing like the other plastic backers out there...I have used them on every sled with alot of miles overall and not one broke or lost....

Going with the Grand Master setup this season on my single ply doo....they are monsters.

I wasn't going to take any chances on my winder. Decided to ad some extra protection using some DOO Sliders.

There is less clearance with the stock winder set up with the louvers than on my 11 Apex SE had. I was nicking the exhaust on it before I shimmed up the exhaust.

I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Nice...but if you don't stud in the middle we are talking about it' shouldn't be an issue...

What I'd be concerned with is the scrubbing of the track...especially the leading edge and pulling on the coolant line

Not sure about all them holes in those sliders. If your track comes into contact with them it will grab hard and possibly start chewing up the track. Been there done that.

I have done this before on a few sleds with a lot less track to protector clearance with no issues tearing up a track. Even wore the sliders down a bit from rubbing and had Zero track damage.
Maybe if you were riding on grass/dirt with no lubrication you might have a problem.

If talking about the coolant line on the right side at the front I took that into consideration. I relived the sides of the slider at the front by 5" and slider goes under the hose to protect also. No way hose would be pulled even if slider grabbed and pulled forward.
 
Just a thought guys, what are the fellas with the 1.75" tracks going to do about louvers? Or do the smaller tooth drivers not present a problem for them?

I wouldn't recommend studding a track like that for trail riding. I think most guys that purchased those probably ruled out having studs from the beginning.
 
Mine has the 1.6" track, got the woody's and their template for 96 studs. I will modify the pattern to clear the center. Won't get max traction with 96 but I'll get a little help with the stopping, that's where I really need it as I run a lot of hard packed roads here. And some days the mph manages to exceed the IQ it seems. Can't teach an old dog.....

Agree, but 1.75 is 1/2" taller than 1.25. Won't just the lugs end up hitting louvers? I had planned on using 1.5" studs which is obviously only 1/4" over the lug. I would think that if the high lugs don't hit them , than we should be safe with what most guys want to stud with.
